It’s a small island that they made a unique resort for their cruise ships. Not sinister. Adult beach means not overrun with kids like everywhere else. Disney cruises are for families with children under 15. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77053225 It really is that simple. I've been on 4 Disney cruises, and all 4 stopped at Castaway Cay. It's a nice place. Nothing sinister. The more I know, the crazier I appear to be. User ID: 74808330 United States 09/02/2019 11:58 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Just saying, but most cruse ship companies have their own islands....many with adult only sections. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77033694 I'm not saying that Disney is innocent No I get what you are saying and I never knew this, as I am sure many of us did not. Its very good info, thanks! Xx We've been on several cruises, most of which have private island resorts (Carnival's Cocoa Cay in the Turks, and Royal Caribbean's tiny corner of Haiti -- yes, Haiti). The adults-only areas on the ships are a true godsend, I tell you. The regular pools are crazy loud and overrun with kids. I have one child so we spend some time in the regular pools, but I don't want to hang around a bunch of other people's rowdy kids with their varying levels of manners or not. We don't do Disney cruises because they are considerably more expensive, and we've heard the passengers can be a little too strangely gung-ho for Disney stuff. And there are too many kids for our taste. Another tip is to go in off-season. We homeschool, so a mid-January cruise is mostly kid-free except for our daughter and a few others. Christmas cruises are also quieter. I don't see a conspiracy with Disney's island or their adults-only areas. I'm sure especially on a Disney cruise, that would be quite a relief. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 76894912 We have not been on a Disney cruise, but on all the others we've done... The ships give passengers tip guidelines for all of these people, which adds up to almost more than what we paid for the cruise. You are made to feel like this is obligatory; they put it on your final bill unless you specify not to (meaning you will pay with cash, which you can then do or not do as much as you like). I'd be curious how much the workers actually get in tips. If even half the people on board follow the guidelines, it's a lot. For American workers though it is actual slavery as wages come out to about $6 per hour. |

My first waitressing job in the '80s paid $2.10 per hour (well under minimum wage) because we were supposed to make at least minimum wage with the tips (and yes, we did, and then some). I think low base wages are standard in tip-based jobs, right? "For with thee is the fountain of life: in thy light shall we see light." |

Quoting: Phillip J. Fry Thanks! [link to www.amazon.co.uk (secure)] Castigo Cay by Matthew Bracken Background and synopsis Dan Kilmer is a former Marine sniper in his early thirties. He returned home from military service in the Middle East and gave college a try, but his combat experiences prevented him from fitting into campus life. In a South Florida boatyard, his uncle was attempting to refurbish an old cargo schooner, and Dan left college to help him finish the flagging project. After two years of work but before the sixty-foot boat was relaunched, his uncle fell from a scaffold and died. While still in his twenties, Dan inherited the schooner Rebel Yell. Soon after, he left the United States to embark on a series of voyages, mostly in pursuit of beautiful women and good times. While he was away from America, new federal taxes were imposed on luxury property, including privately owned yachts. Dan cannot pay these or other new taxes, so he can’t return to the States without risking confiscation of his schooner. Instead he must always fly under official radar and earn a living by his wits while staying one step ahead of the IRS and other government agencies. He must navigate the reefs of government control while always searching for a way to make money without the permission of the local authorities. This usually requires some type of shady dealing, subterfuge, and stealing from thieves as Dan moves from port to port. A shifting cast of crew members inhabits Rebel Yell, but the novel is about Dan Kilmer and his quest to live as a free man in an increasingly unfree world. Xx |

"Castaway" my all-time favorite Tom Hanks movie (second only to "The DaVinci Code" which inspired about a dozen threads for me personally)...is THIS TID-BIT on Hurricane Dorian. "Castaway Cay" is either connected to or very close to the "apocolyptic scene" at Abaco Island in the Bahamas, worst hit of all the areas with 70,000 people now in dire need to humanitarian relief according to the United Nations report today (9-05-2019.) IT WAS THE ISLAND USED TO FILM THE TOM HANKS MOVIE "CASTAWAY."
