Too much cheap credit, developers built shopping centers and retailers filled in the gap. Too many stores, all enabled by credit the fed pumps out at rates below what the market would demand. |

When you shop online, by the time you pay for shipping it is usually within %10 of what you would pay at a retail established store. Online isn't really a big bargain anymore thanks to the taxes and fees the locals adhere. |

Our local Ulta cosmetics store in the mall sent me $10 to buy anything, so I went in to use it, and the item I liked, an Ulta store brand item, wasn't even in stock. Stores can't even keep what u need on the shelf half the time. I shop online a lot, but thrift and discount stores, too. Don't have much to spend, anyway. Many malls here are converting into movie theaters and bars, restaurants, and just a few shops, to stay relevant. Food, dining, spas, entertainment, pet supplies, music venues, deluxe theaters, smoke shops, tattoo, discount stores, seem to be the trend. Target and Walmart are holding out, for now... |

I haven't been to a mall in at least 30 years. I didn't like it then either. It's the superficial consumption and higher prices I never cared for. Back in the 80s it was one of the hangouts for us kids. We’d roll dimes down the halls of whatever you call them to see who’d chase them. We also super glued quarters to the floor by benches so we could sit and watch people trying to pick them up. We were cheaply and easily entertained back then. I am a meat popsicle. And the Devil's Uncle. *Mostly* Harmless. |

Everytime I go in there, the store is half-empty but the prices are twice as much. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 75047547 Sad, however true. Or you get to the food and drink services and the staff refuse to treat the customers well because they feel that the customers are beneath them. I have actually had staff refuse to serve me because they little skinny armed soy boys were triggered by my toxic masculinity. I was told by one guy while in line that he felt that I needed to know that I made him feel less than manly and it was not fair to him or his friends that my toxic masculinity made him feel bad. I would like to say that I told that little princess where he could shove his man bun, however, I was so stunned that he actually thought that his inferiority complex was something that not only was ok to bring to my attention but that I would actually care. |
