Today he told me about the story how he paid the hospital bill when I was born lol. The airline lost his luggage and he used the insurance money he got from that to pay my birth bill. Awww, how sweet!  Isn't it so adorable that he talks about the day you were born? I think he still sees you as his precious baby girl... there's no doubt that he adores you, and you're a good daughter. I would love to have my father next to me, he used to tell me stories too, stories about his childhood and adventures. My birth bill was so high cuz my mother had to spend a whole month in the hospital cuz she got bitten by a venomous snake and the same day she's released I was born, good thing she's in the hospital. I thought all corn syrup was HF but I think you are right, it's not. I've made them like that too but maple syrup does a good job too. I used sf maple syrup. You know: you CAN make your own Corn Syrup with just sugar and water. It's really very easy... mix it 50/50 and boil it [while stirring regularly] until it comes to the thickness you like. Cool and store it in a capped jar/bottle in the fridge. Thinner versions are what Bartenders call "Simple Syrup" that's used in mixed cocktails. Just don't take the temp too high or it'll enter the soft-ball stage and become candy. If you keep boiling it'll then pass to the hard-ball, soft-crack and finally hard-crack stages. BTW: if you do make hard candy, clean that pan while it's still HOT with lots of hot water! If you let it cool before cleaning you're in for an ordeal.
