I.E., what the Government can and cannot do and how those things need to be done in which order. Quoting: Dace Haven't been here much lately...school started up again, for both my kiddos and me so it's been hectic. I just received an assignment for my 'Federal Government' class. I have to survey at least 20 people and record their answers. I'm not going to 'just' ask my circle of friends and family...I want diverse replies and raw opinions....I also do not want to pester 20 random people on the street. I also think I can get some of the most original thoughts and answers here. Anyhoo.. In your OWN words and opinions (no googling!), would a few of you please answer this question.. "What is in the US Constitution?" _____________________________________ No user names will be cited. If I get more than 20 replies, I will pick out 20-30 of my favorites. I'll post the grade we get when I receive it. TY in advance to any who comment. The US Constitution is the blueprint used to create the initial structure of a new nation and, with the Bill of Rights, further elaborate changes that couldn't necessarily be anticipated by the founding fathers during the construction of the original document. The US Constitution was designed to express the hopes, desires, and idealized nation the founders worked to create. At its heart it also DID anticipate those negative influences that could prematurely end their dream if not properly addressed. Freedom, in its many forms, that of religion, speech, assembly, and the press for example, are crucial to the longevity of a successful country and needed to be successfully enumerated to insure the intent of the founders was clearly stated. One could liken the US Constitution to a roadmap. To get from inception to wherever the journey would lead from there. Yes, there have been detours; amendments have been passed to limit occupancy of the Presidency to two, four year terms. At the time of creation there was a clear distaste by the founders for creation of a long term ruler and yet we ended up with FDR winning a third term. It was addressed with an amendment. "Socialism only works in two places: Heaven where they don't need it and hell, where they already have it." Ronald Reagan The trouble with our liberal friends is not that they're ignorant; it's just that they know so much that isn't so." Ronald Reagan |

Stop the inanity! User ID: 77602333 United States 09/05/2019 05:34 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The US Constitution, as ratified in 1789, contains the blueprint for our Constitutional Republic. Its seven articles describe how the Executive, Legislative, and Judicial branches are to be populated as well as what responsibilities/functions each is tasked with. It seeks to limit the areas of influence that government has over the citizens lives and prevent governmental overreach. It also seeks to find a balance between the power/authority of the many States and the new, centralized Federal government. With the adoption of the Bill of Rights in 1791, the powers of this centralized government (as well as states' powers) were further limited. The US Constitution, which began as a document meant to limit government power, changed with the adoption of the 13th Amendment when it morphed from a government limiting document to a document which could be used to control and direct the populace in a direction that the "ruling class" wants to take. Never before had an Amendment spoke to the citizens, telling us what we are to do or not to do, instead of us telling them what they can or can not do. Today, unfortunately, the US Constitution has become nothing more than an afterthought when it comes to government function. Repeal the 17th Amendment and the Reapportionment Act of 1929! [link to constitutioncenter.org (secure)] The Constitution has 4,543 words, including the signatures but not the certificate on the interlineations; and takes about half an hour to read. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 1913722 United States 09/05/2019 05:54 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | To me, the Constitution was a guide for future generations to follow so that the People of the US would not be persecuted by future government, "leaders", or elites. It was an "Up Yours" to those who might try to control us and a reference to be followed and upheld. Good luck on your paper! Back in my day, my papers were typed using a typewriter, and being a procrastinator, I needed White Crosses or Black Beauties (stimulant in the old days) to type throughout the night to hand in the following day. I'll never forget all the typos I made on that last page. |

Strictly speaking, open ended vague questions to 20 self selected people is not really a survey...usually, there are very specific questions with 3 to 5 options. I call bullshit on this assignment. |
