I am thankful for plastics.... disposal options? the microbes mentioned in a recent thread that digest plastic.... or incineration. Good old incineration is making a comeback as scrubbers make it safe and effective. AND it ends the recycling horrors outlined in the original link. may find an article about the resurgence of modern incineration. used to be, no school was constructed without this capability. Cardboard is huge, those giant dumpsters are always packed full and overflowing. The rest, I've heard only the metal cans get recycled. Guy I know in the industry says the glass and plastic does not get recycled. It's sickening to think we were shipping it overseas anyway. Supposedly China quit taking it so it just gets thrown in the landfill with everything else now - after you pay big bucks to have it picked up separately. One thing I can get behind is the composting operations, we do have that here and that seems sensible and worthwhile to keep food waste and other biodegradables out of the landfill. |

Some critics of incineration claim that incineration ultimately encourages more waste production because incinerators require large volumes of waste to keep the fires burning, and local authorities may opt for incineration over recycling and waste reduction programs. ha ha academic bullshit.... they really don't have real-life founded reasons to protest against this technology. it will be chosen because it IS better.
