Composting done at home is the way to go if possible, I agree. There sure are a lot of people living in apartments though and also the bulk of the stuff at commercial compost facilities probably comes from restaurants and food processing plants, plus municipal yard waste.

This apartment building has all the recycling options but the food waste one. I don't know how the rest of town is, I bet most apartment buildings don't have that service either.

Recycling services is a yet another big bill for small businesses. If the stuff isn't getting recycled, but we're paying for it anyway, it's just a scam to make the trash service companies rich.

Despite analyses involving large data sets, the available evidence has substantial shortcomings, and a long series of potential biases may invalidate the observed associations. Only bipolar disorder shows consistent results, with similar effects across United States and Denmark data sets, but the effect has modest magnitude, appropriate temporality is not fully secured, and biological gradient, plausibility, coherence, and analogy offer weak support. The signal seems to persist in some robustness analyses, but more analyses by multiple investigators, including contrarians, are necessary. Broader public sharing of data sets would also enhance transparency.

our trash hauler is a family company. The State of Delaware forced them, and all haulers,
to go from 2 times a week trash pickup to

once a week for trash and once every two weeks for recycling

with yard waste pickup in the alternate weeks.... they hated it, lost money on it, but wanted to remain in business.

I am glad they are... they are the only ones locally not mandating those huge PLASTIC recycling containers....

Yup, we store the trash above ground in piles and say, "wow, how GOOD is that???"

Much of it has been a scam for twenty years or more once they realized there was no useful market for what they were saving.

I hate this scam.

used to be, a sheltered "job" in recycling was the holy grail for mentally disabled students.... the word retarded is fine, they were that and autistic

then the free-standing recycling sites started being shut down....

they just don't want to say it out loud: this is the wrong path

It depends on if there is market for whatever is recycled. Some make insulation from recycled newspaper, also put recycled glass in road beds.

the issue is that this is done for political, not economic or environmental reasons. The chemical processes and other work involved in recycling paper are NOT beneficial.

Re-use... now that works. Re-use that glass jar. Re-use the newspaper. It has lots of uses in the home.

There were controversial crematoriums somehow producing energy, I'm not sure about using corpses to do it, but couldn't waste incinerators do the same?

This is the industry I've been in 20+ years.

Most people have no clue how much is landfilled or incinerated.

Metal is a big YES to recycle

Cardboard is a big YES to recycle

I've seen most other "recyclables" moved right on in to the trash.

There is a very low market of buyers of mixed glass and a very low market for mixed plastic.

.....and tires are a nightmare.

some areas are supposedly categorizing waste incineration as a renewable energy (like wind/solar is categorized).

They export the plastics to some shithole, who probably goes out and illegally dumps it in the ocean. Great job, bleeding hearts! You created a bigger problem by not accepting human nature for what it is.

Here in Pinellas County we burn all our trash in an incinerator that produces electricity. After burning, metals (steel, aluminum, etc) are mechanically separated from the ash and recycled. There's no real practical need to recycle, yet we still have curbside recycling.

Due to how they operate, running a generator is probably twice (or more) as efficient as burning that fuel in a car's gas engine. So it actually does make sense still, even though you want to laugh.

In our city, Its a CHEAP way for me to get rid of more trash.
I only have to pay for the NORMAL trash, but the recycle bin is HUGE and holds so much more.

I stopped believing in recycling in the 90s when I watched the city recycle trucks dump all the recycling right next to the trash in the dump.

In not about to waste extra time and water to clean an empty peanut butter jar either...

this makes too much sense for leftist leaders!
