Kings have feared it and men have died for it but its true origins remain a riddle, shrouded in mystery and wrapped in legend.

Said to be the rock used as a pillow by the biblical Patriarch Jacob when he dreamed of a ladder to heaven, as described in the Book of Genesis, how it got to Scotland nobody knows. One story claims the original stone arrived via Ireland with an Egyptian princess who fell in love with a Celtic prince.

My connection to the stone begins in Perth [link to www.visitdunkeld.com] where i was born in my grandparents house. My father had been awarded a bursary by the Iraqi government to be educated abroad as a young aircraft engineer for Iraqi Airways [link to 3.bp.blogspot.com (secure)] [link to 4.bp.blogspot.com (secure)] and trained at the improbably located Scone airdrome and met my mother in Perth. After my father graduated and my parents wed they moved to Baghdad where i was concieved. The law at that time stipulated that even with a British mother my British nationality was not assured unless i was also born in the U.K. So my parents (and me) flew to Britain where i was born in my grandparents house in Perth. Nineteen days later i was registered and we flew to Baghad around new years day.
