Excellent description.

Re: Morning of 9/11 what were you doing?
I WORKED in a high rise for a law firm in another major city, across the street from a Federal Courthouse. We were all in the kitchen fucking off and talking, eating donuts with cnn on mute when it "broke" - we stayed in the kitchen glued to the tv for the duration of the time i was there. When the "plane:" hit the pentagon I said out loud... that is total bullshit and impossible./ I am gone. I went and picked up my children from school. I was PISSED they had rolled the TVs in - they shouldn't have done that./

Years later one of the lawyers I worked for told me I was a badass because I was the ONLY ONE that called bullshit that day. They all knew I was a conspiracy theorist so called, and from then on they'd come by my desk to find out what was "really going on" - lol I was already doing AJ and here and other whackier sites that no longer exist. Totally different day and age now!

I was headed to work and had not even heard about the 1st plane when I heard there was a 2nd plane. I just came undone.

Re: Morning of 9/11 what were you doing?
I remember it like it happened yesterday.
I was sleeping.
The phone rang.
My grandfather, a WWII vet, told me to turn on the TV right away.
I turned it on just in time to see the second tower hit.
I was in college at the time.
I went to my first class. No one could focus on anything except the news feeds, and all the classes were cancelled for the rest of the day.
Later that afternoon, I was looking up at a very clear and quiet sky on the west coast, discussing what had happened with a classmate, and I somehow knew...
Nothing would ever be the same.

That was the day of my awakening.

Re: Morning of 9/11 what were you doing?
Woke up 7am West Coast time to get my kids ready for school. I’m in the shower listening to radio news half asleep and I hear the reports (at this point the first tower has fallen; I am not comprehending this at all and think a plane just hit the Trade Center).

This is still very concerning to me because I’m originally from NY; my Dad worked his whole career there and I worked there 2 summers and spent a ton of time there because of my Dad. I run out dripping from shower to turn on the TV, my brain put together that one tower had fallen, and I watched the second one fall live. Time pretty much stopped for me.

In a further way this event shook me to the core, I had also had an internship in college at the Pentagon; when it got hit as well....I just couldn’t believe it. I had physical memories of these buildings and what it felt like for them to be full of people.

Somehow got the kids off to school; couldn’t find my sister who worked near the Trade Center till the evening of that day; I knew someone who died on the plane that hit the Pentagon (her husband had worked with me), and my family knew several people who died at the WTC because of my Dad’s long ties to WTC 1 where he worked for so long.

9/11 totally messed me up. I remember on 9/12 people came into my business laughing and joking and I was just so angry at these people. Closed the business for the rest of the week; spent quite a bit of time obsessing over the whole thing.

I was installing Cable Modems. my 1st appt was 8:45.
I got everything installed on the clients computer and connected up to the net around 9am (USB installs were quick easy money)
When I tried to show the lady how fast webpages loaded I could not get anything to load, only when her husband called her and told her to turn on the TV did I know why.
The net was bogged down crazy slow that morning. I sat in her living room watching till 10 when I had to go back and finish my appointments for the day.

Went to work early that morning to get ready for a presentation/meeting in Queens, Maple Grove Cemetery for a new building they were planning to do...a columbarium.

Was listening to WABC770AM,Curtis and Kuby, and heard, LIVE on the radio the second plane hit, as a guy was being live interviewed after the first plane hitting.

They closed the bridges so no meeting...in Queens.

A friend and I went to a lookout point on the Hudson river and could see the plume from 25 miles away that morning. Yes I have the pics.

Was down at the site maybe four days later to see the utter destruction, have those pics too.

As the building of the columbarium proceeded at the cemetery they were burying fireman and others every couple of weeks at the cemetery.

Happened to be at 'the site' only a couple of weeks ago and just happen to pass by the panel with the name Christopher Pickford, he's buried out at Maple Grove...and we also happened to attend his memorial service.

Breathe.

Re: Morning of 9/11 what were you doing?
I was in NYC a couple months ago with my family. We visited the WTC memorial. I didn’t like it much. The way the water continuously falls down makes me think of those people that fell or jumped from the buildings. It gave me an unnerving feeling of endless falling. That’s all I could think about. That and the fact that I could actually be standing where someone landed after falling or jumping. I’ll never forget those pictures and videos of those poor people that fell or chose to jump. Never in a million years could you imagine that something like that would happen to you. And yet 13 years ago tonight they were spending their last night on earth, with loved ones, doing their normal thing. And they had no idea the fate that awaited them in the morning.

I will never forget.

Re: Morning of 9/11 what were you doing?
I was at Western Boone Tri-West Hendricks Middle School in western Hendricks County, Indiana. We were toiling on an addition to the existing school, pouring a section of concrete floor. A beautiful fallish morning.

This was before phones were very smart. One of the concrete mixer truck drivers had talked on the radio with his dispatcher and learned that "a plane had hit a tower in New York". I interpreted that as a Cessna-type plane and a radio-type tower. As far as New York goes, I'm aware that it's a big state, and there's more to it than Manhattan. So I thought this was a bad day for the Cessna's pilot, but in the grand scheme of things, it wasn't much of a deal.

Within a few minutes, workmen were getting phone calls on their dumb phones, and we realized something was substantially wrong in the world. My brother called me and briefed me, and I think it was during our conversation that the second plane found its target. Whoa, Nelly.

So we finished our work. I remember pointing out to some of the guys that they'd never forget where they were on September 11, 2001, and they'd probably even remember me telling them that they'd never forget it.

We were about 20 miles west of the Indianapolis airport, and we noticed aircraft lining up (in the sky at FL 10 or wherever they were) and waiting their turn to land. Within an hour, there wasn't a plane in the sky.

Work ended a bit early that day. Typically, I'd have had to go somewhere else in the afternoon, but everything was shutting down early. So I returned home and watched TV all night long. In particular, I remember ABC's Elizabeth Vargas' face betraying her emotions. She kept her composure, but the day's news clearly disturbed her. And who could blame her for being disturbed?

that was the year i was biking to work to get in shape.

so when i showed up to the lab after a 3 mile bike ride. my associate ran up to me and told me. i was sweating and got some water and we looked at it at work.

they sent everyone at the lab home by noon.

those were the slow computer days so we watched for a couple hours on a shared computer.

friends came over that night and we laughed very hard about the whole passport crap.

i was already a 'conspiracy' guy. but it woke up some of them.

Had a flight the day of leaving out of Midway. Was woken up by someone else and thought it was a movie or some joke. I was pissed and afraid at the same time, it that make sense. Nobody in the city went outside, not even to walk. It was weird. Every bus had stopped running too....people just hibernated the rest of the day, probably watching TV and scared it wasn't over.

Very weird day. Can't believe it was 18 years ago. wtf feels like 2/3 years ago, not almost 20 years!!!!!!

Was listening to a realtor give her speech before signing our house for her to put up in the market. A friend came over from next door telling me to turn on tv. It was so surreal.

When I saw the tv broadcasting it, I excused the realtor and said I’m going to go now to get my kids at school. I just drove right to school and picked up my three kids.

We watched tv all day. I’ll never forget the extreme quiet outside with NO traffic and No airplanes in the air. Eerie quiet as we didn’t live in a rural area

I knew that day that the world would be different from that day forward.

One of the first films I watched shortly after the event was from a team of French filmmakers who were making a documentary about a local firehouse. They had some raw and uncensored footage, including that of the jumpers. I’ll never forget the sound it made when their bodies hit the awnings at the street level.

I think that documentary has been scrubbed from the internet. I have not been able to find it for years.

I had joined the Air Force in June and was at tech school in Biloxi.

Was my first day on the tower simulator for air traffic control.

I was trying to get a quick nap after morning PT before heading to class. SOmeone came pounding on my door yelling there had been a plane crash at the WTC. I went running to the dayroom to watch the news and got there just as the second plane hit. Crazy day.

Just got out of the shower and was getting ready for work. Husband called me from work and told me to turn on the tv. I was standing, getting ready, and talking to him. The news was saying it was an accident at the time. Talking about how other planes have crashed by accident in NYC high rise buildings. Then saw the 2nd plane hit LIVE. I dropped the phone and sat on the bed in shock. Once the second plane hit we all knew what was happening. Grabbed the phone and told husband I’ll be there in 15 mins. We both worked in the same building. The drive to work, was all news (music radio was suspended).

I turned on the tv to see the second plane hit live.
I thought it was a replay of the first plane at first.
An hour later my military friends phoned and said they were headed out
 Quoting: Honch

I was a couple miles away from the Pentagon at a training event for my job at a telecommunications company. I got into work and within 5 minutes they called everyone out of the room to watch the first tower on fire. Then everything else took place.

I was living in Bayonne, NJ during the time. It's right across the river from Manhattan. I drove home that day at 4pm to my wife who was pregnant. I remember driving over the bridge to get home and all I could see was smoke where the towers were.

The drive home was nuts. I was cruising at 90 MPH and I was being passed by every kind of emergency vehicle you can imagine as if I was not moving at all.
