One of the first films I watched shortly after the event was from a team of French filmmakers who were making a documentary about a local firehouse. They had some raw and uncensored footage, including that of the jumpers. I’ll never forget the sound it made when their bodies hit the awnings at the street level.

I think that documentary has been scrubbed from the internet. I have not been able to find it for years.

holy s*** if you ever find that documentary please post it here

I remember this documentary; I believe I saw it on a cable channel many years ago and haven’t seen it since.

I’ve also spent years looking for a book on 9/11 that I saw at a bookstore a year or two after the event; the book had many images of the underground shopping mall and subway stations, heavily damaged and full of dust and debris, but much of it remarkably still accessible//visible.

I didn’t buy the book because it was so expensive at the time; I returned about a week later to buy the book (couldn’t get the images out of my mind) and it had been sold, and I didn’t even know the name of the book (it was a large book of mostly photographs). Crazy that I can’t find it again.

I was on the couch asleep and my mom called and told me.
I turned on the tv to see the second plane hit live.
I thought it was a replay of the first plane at first.
An hour later my military friends phoned and said they were headed out
 Quoting: Honch

Had just gotten realllly high. Walked over to my grandmother's home to say "hello". Everyone was hunkered around the TV. The news read "America at War!". The towers were burning. I was 21.

I went into town and saw all the gas lines. Civilians directing traffic while wearing sidearms. All the chaos and uncertainty.

So we had some beers while we watched town from a hill near the cemetery with a perfect view. It was quiet but active. Made sure we knew where the weapons were. Wondering what would happen the next day and after.

Re: Morning of 9/11 what were you doing?
I was in the Toronto airport to fly back to the states with a group of coworkers. The desk clerk said nothing, only that the U.S. had closed its borders and we couldn't fly. Cell phones were not ubiquitous then and airport clerks wouldnt tell us a thing. I noticed flight attendants outside the terminal crying and smoking. We were stranded and so we had to go back to hotel. From there we saw the unbeliveable footage of what happened. It took several days
To finally rent a van for our group to all fit in. We drove till 11:00pm for two days before finally getting home (we lived in the southwest. I was never hso ahappy to be home, as I had heen separated from children and husband. I have PTSD from that time and never go to large gatherings outdoors. I stopped listening to music radio ststions and instead watched news. The attack changed my life priorities. I don't believe the official story; read Crossing the Rubicon by Michael C. Ruppert and learned a lot. I will never trust our government again because they lied to us about it.

Laying on couch nursing the worst sinus infection in my life. Turned on TV and saw a plane flying into a building, at first I thought it was just a movie advertisement.

Looking back I remember thinking how fake the plane crashing into building looked and definitely wouldn’t be watching the movie.

I work the late shift, so I had no clue about it until I got to work. Felt like my coworkers hit me with a baseball bat when they laid it on me.

There was a lot of images and footage I came across completely removed from the internet shortly after.

I remember the footage of bodies (sounds) slamming against the concrete and awnings that sounded like bags of cement exploding. I also remember seeing footage of bodies piled in the bottom of elevator shafts completely burned to a crisp.

The un burned and burning jet fuel that did not burn up on impact raced down the elevator shafts. The elevators acted like pistons in a cylinder under compression from the explosion above, forcing them to a fiery explosion at the bottom.

Remember, one of the wings from one of the planes which are full of fuel impacted an elevator lobby high above. One person survived that to tell the tale.

When these elevators hit the bottom floor, it completely blew out the walls and glass on the bottom of floors.

Off work, hung over, in the midst of a divorce and sleeping on a buddy's couch waiting for an apartment to be ready for move in... woke up & was walking through the kitchen & saw the first tv was on in the living room & he was watching a report about a 'light plane' that'd just crashed into one of the World Trade Center towers... the report had a cam on the smoke rising from the tower, live.

I thought it was a movie at first it was so surreal... and then I watched in disbelief as the second plane crashed, live.

Damnedest thing I've ever seen...
 Quoting: ScrumpTheTexan

Same with me. Was at dad's and we watched 2nd one hit. My thought was the impact looked too "graceful." That was my first thought. Surreal is right. Dad said "Do you wanna do a shot?" I said "Sure dad if you want." (I'm female) We did a shot of Dewars and life was never the same.

Friend Bill has only got 2 weeks left and I'm afraid he's gonna pass on the anniversary of his first day at Ground Zero. Day 3 as a Union steel worker. Spent a lotta time cleaning up, so pray for him as the Lord gets ready to take him from a long life of toxic chemical cancers,

Yes, I imagine it sounded like bags of cement exploding. People said the bodies hit with such an impact, there was nothing but a pink mist left. I’m grateful not to have seen footage of that.

God rest those poor souls who perished that day, and all those who were witnesses. And God have mercy on the souls who caused this horrific event!

Re: Morning of 9/11 what were you doing?
It was always so surreal for our family to attend the Chicago Air Show and watch the military jet fighters fly between the building knowing someday it could be for real.

I live in a bedroom community near Chicago. Woke early for a post surgical exam down town. I heard the news and watched the story unfold as the 2nd plane crashed. I cancelled my appointment and spent the day monitoring events. That day I was driving to run an errand and notice not a single plane in the sky, not a chem-trail, Nothing as all the planes had been grounded.

That night with our windows open normally you could hear the jets coming into midway and o'hare along with the occasional smaller planes. That night nothing. And then suddenly you would hear a pair of f-16 fighters making their turn to the north as they made their circle tour of the city all night long.

Re: Morning of 9/11 what were you doing?
I woke up about 9:20am in my tiny apartment in the East 20s near Gramercy park, to the sound of an unusual amount of sirens blaring. I turn on the TV and then barely remember what I did until the second plane SUPPOSEDLY hit and then you could hear dozens of people screaming.

So I pack up some stuff and head to Grand Central Station.
They closed it down. No trains in or out. Traffic is at a standstill all over Manhattan.

I'm trapped. You would not believe how quiet it was, people were really scared this was WWIII and bombs were going to start dropping any second. As I'm walking down second ave back to my apt I notice an upscale deli still open, so I go in and buy 50 bucks worth of food knowing I might be stuck inside for who knows what, or even having a last meal.

By the time I get back to my place, I noticed I hadn't received any phone calls. Not even my own mother. One of many revelations over the years. As the day wore on, nobody called me.

I left NYC in 2005.

Re: Morning of 9/11 what were you doing?
Last semester of college. Walking to a class where we talked about current events and wrote Op/Ed pieces about them. A friend from the class told me what was going on as we walked to our classroom.

We were dismissed early. Walked across the street to my work-study job. They had the TV on in a lounge next door. Watched live as both towers fell.

I had been on the observation deck of the WTC just a few months prior. I had two friends with fathers in the Pentagon at the time it was struck. I had family very close to where 93 went down. It all hit very close to home.

I lived in Indiana at the time, It was my day off, I was still in bed but awake, got a call from my Brother in Michigan who said that a plane had hit the World Trade Center. Just as I turned the TV on the second plane hit. First words out of my mouth were, we are at war, I don't know who with but we are at war. The rest of the day was a blur. I do recall in my small town in Indiana we never heard sirens ever. But that day we heard sirens all day long. It was weird. At one point in the day after all the planes had landed. I noticed a plane very high up in the sky, it was shadowed by two fighters. Later I learned it was Bush on his way to Nebraska. It was a very odd day indeed.
