Re: Morning of 9/11 what were you doing?
Was in at a hotel in Boston getting ready with a work group to begin a training session.
One of the ladies from our home group came in saying it was on the news that a plane had crashed into one of the twin towers in NYC.
We were all still adjusting our thoughts around that mind picture thinking it might be a small plane, like one that had crashed another time. That's when we noticed there was a huddle, some people looking stunned. others nervous. Then the we approached to hear that the building was coming down. After a short time another person walked in to inform that word was another plane had flown into the second tower. At that point we all rushed to a giant screen tv they had pulled out into the lobby area on the ground floor. We all stood there in utter shock and disbelief as the scene kept playing out of what had just been words minutes ago. We all stood there listening to every word and watching the scene being played over and over. My friend had to physically pull my arm and lead me away to get back to the conference room to put away our documents and personal items to find our way back to our rooms. The rest of the day was surreal. The streets were empty, shops closed and we had to walk a while before we found the only restaurant open for business that afternoon.

My story is similar to Op’s. It was somewhere between 6 and 7 am here and I was still asleep. My mother woke me to tell what was going on.

Re: Morning of 9/11 what were you doing?
A co-worker of mine and I were leaving in the company van to head to a warehouse a couple blocks away. We turned on the radio to a local Popular morning show and they were taking listener calls between music segments. A caller - you could literally feel the panic, fear and overwhelming horror in his voice - stammered to explain to the host of the show what he was witnessing on television at that very moment.

The host of the show dismissed the caller as a crank with a huge, booming laugh, something ill never forget, “ Oh, buddy, the crazies are at it early today, ain’t they?”

A moment later, network programming broke in with breaking developments...

You remember the rest.

I was on the couch asleep and my mom called and told me.
I turned on the tv to see the second plane hit live.
I thought it was a replay of the first plane at first.
An hour later my military friends phoned and said they were headed out

In bio class, 10th grade. Everything stopped, cnn on all the school tv’s. Even that young, I immediately became suspicious of the whole osama/al qaida thing and quickly realized it was all bullshit. The whole patriot act thing really made it obvious and sealed the deal for me.

Yea it was pretty cool how they found one of the hijackers singed passport a few blocks away. It was a very nice touch

The fluttering passport. I guess terrorist was driving the plane with the windows rolled down and his elbow on the frame with his passport in his shirt pocket in case he got pulled over.

I was a sophmore in high school. Didn't even know what the world trade center was. Second class of the day was gym, coach just told us to play basket ball in the gym while he watched tv in the hallway. Had no idea what was going on until my mom picked me up and hour later. She was freaking out thinking we were under attack, which we kinda were. In the front office waiting for my mom to pick me up all the ladies were talking about how this might be ww3. I was like oh shit! Was glued to the tv for the rest of the day.

Similar OP. I took off work that day, and my mom called me about 8:30 and said that plane crashed into the first Tower. I couldn't believe it. Turned on the TV, saw the second plane crash, then eventually saw both towers fall. I am still sick about this event. Why has no one hanged for this.

I knew the world was going to be fucked up after this happened.

Re: Morning of 9/11 what were you doing?
Shitting bricks cuz my wife was heading to the unemployment office 2 blocks from WTC by PATH train......got her on the phone before she got on train....

My sister works at 7 WTC and my brother worked in Tower 2.....I couldn't contact them until the next day....as a side note, one of the ash covered bicycles locked in the bike rack display at the 911 museum belongs to my brother....

I was in bugout mode.....I was a prepper from way back.... packed the car and prepared to head out once my wife got home....go out my gas masks, dosimeter, decon kits, and tyvex suits....

I saw everything from across the river....the smell was horrible.....
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 73364948

I'm adding that I was shocked at the sheeple neighbors....even as the 2 plane struck, a neighbor sez " thats so tragic, another accident".....she an many others still thought it was accidental.....

My brother survived cuz he ignored the security personnel telling people to go back to work in the tower.....he stayed on the street and became one of the ash covered people when the first tower collapsed....

In the following days I was so angry I was shaking.....I was ready to go back in the army.....I served 5yrs in the 80's as a paratrooper....my wife talked me out of it.....I try not to watch 911 programming....I still get very angry...

Why would the hijackers have been carrying passports anyway? The planes were all domestic flights and they didn’t intend to survive?

I was in a meeting at the university of Minnesota in Minneapolis.

They evacuated the building I was in so I got in my car and drove back to my house in remote northern Minnesota and watched TV non-stop for a week.

Re: Morning of 9/11 what were you doing?
It was a perfect sunny morning so I put the windows down in the car, did not turn on the radio, and drove in a good mood to work.

As I was parking in the lot, a coworker came over and said did I know what had happened? I said no, what? She said a plane flew into the WTC. I was surprised of course, asked if she was joking etc., then we agreed it seemed like terrorism because too many things would have to go wrong for that to happen by accident.

Then we went into work which happened to be a room with tall TV monitors on one side. All days we watched airplanes flying into buildings, etc. We wondered why the F-16's weren't scrambled to shoot these things down. Why they had been grounded. What the hell was going on, it didn't make sense.

Just six months earlier we'd been watching during the day as the news reported some guy fell asleep in his Piper or Cessna flying up the Mississippi Valley. Maybe he had a heart attack. Anyway his plane was flying itself, and it was intercepted by two F-16's that followed it for a couple hours until it ran out of fuel and crashed in a field.

Two F-16's for an obviously innocent plane in the middle of nowhere. No F-16's for big jets way off-course flying into important buildings in NYC and DC.

Around 5pm, with no time to investigate anything and NYC (where I was not) in historic chaos, Lawrence Eagleburger, who was once in a while on TV and was extremely fat, tells a TV reporter that al Qaida did it. How the fuck would he know that? GWB was flying around the country hiding and showing us how an apparently culpable CINC acts.

We never heard nor saw the face of Lawrence Eagleburger ever again.

A few days later I took calls from families and acquaintances of those missing in the upper floors of one of the towers, looked at the list of who had checked in at a police station and was otherwise accounted for, and (in every case or nearly every case) had to tell them that the name was not on the list. In other words their dad, husband, or business associate was very very likely dead -- no need to say it. It really happened. Real people above the plane strikes were trapped and died.

I was in my 6th month of a new job, new industry for me. After the 2’nd plane hit, I barged into the owner’s office (he was in a meeting) and told him to buy gold futures contracts. He didn’t buy then, but years later continued to compliment me in front of other people for my astute advice during a time of uncertainty.

One of the worst things Nashville did after 9/11 was co-op it for themselves. It made me really angry. The whole "we were all New Yorkers on that Day" BS.

That really hurt after taking in on the chin from southern people ignorant of NYC. I had been commuting back and forth for years, since 1998.
Then suddenly everyone wanted to move to NYC and Willamsberg, Brooklyn became popular as an alternative. Rents doubled within three years, it was insanity.

It had become a city for outsiders and the wealthy. One day I just couldn't take the dog poo and the blight at every turn anymore. It seemed like everyone had a dog and nobody wanted to clean up after them. I finally couldn't take anymore of the filth and left for good.

I was working night shift at the time. That morning after leaving work I had stopped at the supermarket, and then I went to get gas for my car. While pumping gas I heard people talking about a plane flying into a skyscraper in NYC. Everyone was confused about what had happened. Some stating it may have been the plane had mechanical failure, while others saying it may have been an attack. When I got home I turned on the tv and saw the second plane hit.

I will never forget seeing those poor people waving for help from their office windows. Worse than that was watching them leap to their death.

12 yrs old.

Usually woke up to radio music for school but today the talk show hosts were sounding weird, sad, lots of 'oh no' and 'dear god'.

Ran downstairs and turned on the tv, watched in confusion for about 2 minutes before the second plane hit. They really did time it perfectly, considering I'm on west coast. I dont really remember the towers as a monument before then.

Sure as fuck didn't go to school that day.

Progressive ass junior high had us visiting a Mosque within 6 months.
