Is this thing in our solar system yet? [Sorry if that's a dumb question). I remember only awhile back the oblong thing that was tumbling thru our area.. first interplanetary thing discovered. So wow, theyre finding more? |

Yes, it's in our solar system and will make its closest approach to the sun in December or January. Last Edited by Astromut on 09/11/2019 10:37 AM |

When Oumuamua appeared on the scene, it just fascinated me and made me wonder what else would pop into our system later. If object is projected to be its closest this winter, ought to be interesting to see if us amateurs will be able to catch a glimpse. And thought struggles against the results, trying to avoid those unpleasant results while keeping on with that way of thinking. That is what I call 'sustained incoherence.' ...David Bohm “How, O Zenobia, hast thou dared to insult Roman emperors?” ...Aurelian, 44th Emperor of the Roman Empire |

A solar system absolute magnitude H of 13.6 on the above table implies a physical magnitude of about 25 km if it's not significantly outgassing and is very dark (1% reflectivity, darker than fresh asphalt). If it's closer to the moon in reflectivity it implies a size of about 6.5 km. |

So soon after the first... with what may be extreme outgassing?( or maneuvering ) The possibilities are interesting to say the least. Thanks Mutt, I will be watching developments. Note I did not say Aliens, or first contact. oh I just did. Last Edited by NervousAndJerky on 09/11/2019 11:02 AM |
