Korean Chestnuts

I boiled them yesterday, I let them sit in the water overnight and so delicious the next day!

I know they aren't in season but the Korean ones are, and they go as low as $1.99 a pound compared to the skimpy little rotten Italian kind for $6.99 a pound.

I’ve never tried them... how do they taste like?

Water chestnuts are awesome because they never lose their crunch...and make a great tenderizing flour

they taste like youd imagine they would, pasty and nutty, gross

They don't look very appetizing to me chasity, how would you describe what they taste like. Open here to try them though.
I loved pecan pie after you recommended it to me & it was delicious with ice cream so thanks for that.
These remind me to much of & look a lot like conkers or horse chestnuts.

creamy with a hint of sweetness, kinda like a sweet potato but not as mushy.

they are creamy but if over boiled will be dry. They are good roasted too but the skin has to be scored and I don't want to cut myself.

If you can find a jar of them peeled and cooked, consider yourself lucky! Sometimes a thin layer of skin get's stuck on the edible part and needs to be carefully cut away with a small little paring knife.

As for taste, they remind me of sweet potatoes but with a firmer texture. I like them boiled for around 15-20 minutes. The rotten ones are disgusting. Just buy a couple of them to try first before you decide you like them. They may be an acquired taste, I've eaten them since I was a little angelic toddler and I always loved them.

they are similar to buckeyes or horse chestnuts. Those are poisonous! Don't eat those!

Hmmmm... I’m gonna try them!

I really recommend the already cooked kind. I usually find them at a store called World Market but walmart carries them and under $8 is reasonable for them. [link to www.walmart.com (secure)]

put a slit in them and roast them in a oven so there kinda burnt outside, delicious.

I asked my mom if she’s tried it, she said she likes them... I will buy them for sure!

The ones around here are not skimpy and the Koreans love them. They go to every tree they can find and search for chestnuts. poor deer go hungry.
