Border Apprehensions Fall for Third Consecutive Month (Less are trying to come here)

The number of migrants apprehended by authorities at the southern border fell for the third month in a row in August, Customs and Border Protection data show.

Immigration authorities apprehended some 50,700 migrants on the border last month, the lowest tally since January and a 62% drop in apprehensions since the fiscal year's peak in May.

While apprehensions dipped, the number of migrants deemed inadmissible at the border rose by over 3,000 from July to August. About 13,000 migrants were turned away from the U.S. at ports of entry last month, the highest number in the last fiscal year by nearly 2,000. The inadmissible tally includes asylum-seekers who present themselves lawfully at ports of entry but are turned away.

In total, 64,004 migrants were apprehended or turned away from the U.S. last month, a 22% decrease from July and less than half the number recorded in May.
