Tracking the Interstellar Comet | |

Senior Forum Moderator  09/16/2019 05:45 PM  Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Well, YouTube hasn't revoked my live streaming abilities yet (RIP RSBN) so I'm tentatively planning to track and webcast the interstellar comet C/2019 Q4 Borisov tomorrow morning before dawn. It will be low, dim and hard to capture, but I will give it my best shot. Weather forecast is clear, hopefully that holds true. It looks like based on the orbit it should be a little higher each morning from my location until November, so if it's too low and dim to see tomorrow morning (entirely possible) I will just keep at it till we get it. Here's the webcast page with a countdown timer to the start of the webcast (currently set for 5 am eastern, 9:00 UT). If I have to delay it from tomorrow morning due to weather, I'll update the page.  |

With this object, however, they can get such readings, by measuring the light signature of the gunk surrounding the comet. Some of the first of those spectra for C/2019 Q4 are in, and they look pretty similar to the spectra of a class of objects in our solar system. The one I saw last week suggested it would sweep through the inner solar system close to Mars when reaching the rotational plane, but earth would be approximately opposite at that time, which I think is good. Although if its large, I imagine a shit storm of asteroids will be cast about like bowling pins ... but what do I know (other than that I' Pet Goat II video is some scary shite) |
