I mean to keep that record intact until I go home. My wife commutes 40 miles each way to work in a 10 year old Camry. Nothing is wrong with it, with 176,000 miles on it. They made more and anyone in the area, way over what other people made at similar jobs. They did not know when to quit period. Sorry I got a headache These are the times that tries men's and women's souls! May we come though it victorious! |

It is just a shadow of what it used to be. Less than 1/10 of it's 1979 peak in fact. GM's hourly employment in the US: Today ... the striking US hourly workers number 49,000 below are the previous numbers: 1991 hourly US workforce was 304,000 1983 hourly US workforce was 463,000 1979 hourly US workforce was 510,000 1979 total US GM employment was 618,000 |

I can understand wanting a more stable job, the salaries are not bad. I wonder why these places don't come this way. I not trying to steal their jobs, only this is crazy. They made more and anyone in the area, way over what other people made at similar jobs. They did not know when to quit period. They don't get paid 63/hr. Its the "all in" cost after payroll tax, workers comp, health insurance, and all other employer expenses. New hires get paid $14/hr so you can assume experienced employees get paid in the high 20's /hr. Reading through these comments I can see most people have no idea about cost of labor, taxes, etc. Greed is the downfall of america. |

One 5 years in.. makes about $28/hr plus $15k bonus. Pays like $5/mo for Cadillac insurance plan. The other has been there for 20 years. He makes almost $40/hr and same benefits. He owns 4 lower level season tickets for the KC chiefs at goal line. Yeah some people dont understand the cost of GM labor.. union at its best |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 76509910 United States 09/17/2019 10:56 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | This must end quickly, or hundreds of thousands of Mexican and Chinese workers could be laid off!!! Quoting: Flying Elvii [link to www.nbcnews.com (secure)] We noticed here in Michigan. Do not care about scabs and usurpers. Care about my own kind. Not even sure I understand who they are striking against. It's not the autoworkers striking as they crossed the picket lines but it's the janitors union who actually work for Aramark and not GM as they contract janitorial services to Aramark. They already have a pretty good deal and a rather good offer was made but turned down. The workers want guaranteed raises and GM wants the raises tied to profits. Seems like they could meet in the middle on that one. Great health care which they only pay 3% of and they want more vacation time. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 76509910 It looks like the retards are going along with the game. When its whites they make it real. When its invader mutts, they just keep paying them and have them be strike actors. Never worry about coloreds. Gov always has back screen and unseen benefits, like every month is their birthday. Lettuce pickers got a pimp car and "unlimited" food stamp benefits Do YOU even know what the hell you are talking about ? I sure as hell don't, and pretty sure no one else does. Just another racist POS. As bad as the group that sees racism in everything, only your in reverse, anybody other than your disgusting ass has something wrong with them. Why not just go someplace else |

Quoting: docsquat On the bright side, inventory of GM vehicles will shrink to manageable levels. My dealer here will only have 40 each of white, black or silver trucks. You're joking right? $63 an hour?!?! That's crazy money right there. Personally I think They're a bunch of greedy pussies both the higher-ups and the workers. Depending how much they make, always wanting something more. I'm sure their working conditions are just fine. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 77985208 United States 09/17/2019 11:46 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | STUPID FUCKING UAW.....GM JUST got out of BANKRUPTCY which cost $$$BILLIONS of dollars and thousands of jobs... Quoting: PRISON FOR HELLary and Lynch 78009618 Now it is finally healthy and very profitable and the STUPID FUCKS want to BLEED THEM DRY AGAIN... If you hired into GM in the last 5 years...YOU ARE FUCKED!!!!!! According to the article... if you believe them, they are not striking for higher wages... per se... But they are striking so that Temp workers can be hired permanently, and that GM re-opens two idled plants in Mich and Ohio (probably Lordstown... which you can see from the road with an empty parking lot). Basically they are striking for job security and assurances thereof. Good Luck... |
