Abbasid Caliph Al-Mansur in 771 AD
Capitols:

Kufa (750–752)
Anbar (752–762)
Baghdad (762–796, 809–836, 892–1258)
Raqqa (796–809)
Samarra (836–892)
Cairo (1261–1517)

1258-1261 No Capitol. Then moved from Baghdad to Cairo. Why?

The sacking of Baghdad by the Mongols? I'm not an expert or anything but that seems the most likely reason from my perfunctory search...

A Caliphate is Islam under the guardianship of an Islamic Caliph (Political Religious non-secular Steward) successor of the prophet Muhammed who reigns over the ENTIRE Muslim ummah (territory).

Sunni = Royal Family (not direct DNA from Muhammed)
Shia = Madhi (the "divine guidance" resurrected, not from the Koran)

From what I understand the elite of the Abbasid caliphate had for the most part internally adopted secular Persian customs with a veneer of Islamic religious ceremony for the purpose of public relations. The "Golden Age of Islam" was in a sense more of a revival of the Persian empires of old than a manifestation of any Islam induced flourishing.

"golden age" of islam is propaganda. It was never a Golden Age, quite the opposite. No matter how much islamic propaganda and revisionist history you cite.

I wouldn't glorify Islam in any Age, it's been a violent cult since the beginning. Maybe they had high hopes but always lacked the virtue and management capability to carry out anything except their violent nature.

But yes, the wane and waxing of Persia is what's important.

Fact of the matter is... if Persian Islam were to progress toward secular they would be there by now.
