Quoting: Anonymous Coward 73686849 Humans CANNOT and will not get more than 350 MILES from the surface of THIS planet. There is a space radiation problem. Flesh creatures NEED a surrounding MAGNITOSPHERE. The one surrounding the Earth protects US. Metal emits harmful radiation when bombarded with gamma rays from space. So we need two things. Composite hulls on our space craft (zero metal) and a “portable “ magnetosphere. Not gonna happen in your lifetime. To busy buying and selling or making war. To busy with sports and kids. Tripple hull ceramics and plasma shields. Protection from neutrons and charged particles using borated polyethylene plastic. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 47752129 I mean, since they killed Kubrick, err, he died... It sure is tough to 'go back'! Considering NASA could do it in 1969 you would think the Soviet Union or Russia or China or Japan or the European Space Agency would be able to do it 50 years later, no? NO. The COST of this ridiculous exercise in futility would have been FAR out of reach of most nations on Earth, and would have bankrupted all but a few of the rest. Russia pissed a fortune down the drain trying, and decided the money could be better spent on their massive military, which left the USA as the ONLY nation on the planet capable of financing that glorious enterprise. The payoff for all the billions if not trillions spent? A bunch of rocks that robot vehicles could have returned for a tiny fraction of the cost of the manned missions. There will NEVER be manned missions to Mars, which would be suicide missions, all for WHAT? Mars is UNINHABITABLE and always will be. This would be a COLOSSAL WASTE of our great great grandchildren's money, as astronomical DEBT continues to be the NEW NORMAL until the world's economies finally collapse under the weight of it all. |

Makes no sense. Since the U.S. has spent all the time & money on the research & development to successfully land 6 Apollo manned missions on the moon & back (allegedly) and documented how they did it, it would be simple are FAR cheaper for any number of nations to simply do what Apollo did. Russia, China, Japan, India, South Korea, the EU, So why hasn’t ANYone done it? After all, when the ice-covered continent of Antarctica was explored — first by Norway and the U.S., Russia and 20-some-odd other countries followed suit. They didn’t say, “Oh well, the U.S. got there first. Let’s forget having a presence there.” |

Considering NASA could do it in 1969 you would think the Soviet Union or Russia or China or Japan or the European Space Agency would be able to do it 50 years later, no? Exactly!!! This summer I visited the Air and Space Museum in Dayton Ohio. And I have nothing but respect for Armed forces and that’s why I went there. But they also had a display from NASA from one of the Apollo missions and had the space capsule and stuff on display. Looking at it in person made me want to laugh. It looks like something my 11 year daughter would build in our garage. It was such a flimsy, mechanically lacking piece of metal that no one would survive coming back into the atmosphere in that contraption. It made it all the more laughable to think they sold the world this huge lie that we landed on the moon multiple times but yet haven’t been back in 60 years??? Give me a break!! This country is coming under Judgment. And when we finally get exposed to the entire world as being moon landing LIARS, our fall from Grace will be SPECTACULAR. Both good talking points. The truth shall prevail. |

Quoting: Prudent Nomad “What’s important is that we launch when we’re ready, that we have a successful mission when it launches, and I’m not going to sit here and tell you that just arbitrarily we’re going to make it,” said Bowersox during the meeting. “There’s a lot of risk in making the date, but we want to try to do it.” The initial plan was to launch the lunar mission – called Artemis after Apollo’s twin sister in Greek mythology – in 2028, but the deadline was eventually moved to 2024 at the urging of the Trump administration. According to one of the mission’s greatest enthusiasts – the NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine, the agency does not have any ground-breaking goals, but wants to engage the Moon as a critical training ground for the greatly anticipated future expeditions to Mars. Bowersox expressed his appreciation for the goal’s aggressiveness, but emphasised that it might not be viable due to the need to secure funding and solve a whole plethora of technical issues."
