The Berlin Wall came down and there was a major earthquake in San Fran during the World Series. Chinese protesters standing in front of tanks and Japans Hirohito died. Eddie Murphy had an excellent movie playing in theaters called Coming To America. My one and only new car was 2 years old and I had a very sweet girlfriend. I remember watching the Simpsons for the first time with her. All kinds of cool stuff happened in the 80's. ........... |

I lived in Myrtle Beach S.C. Before it was ruined by consumer tourism. I was a life guard on the beach during the summers, I would tell you the stories about the girls, but they hardly seem real to me anymore. The night clubs were awesome! People actually danced and had fun! I had brand new IROC Camaro that was bad ass! The Mustangs were awesome too and could actually get me in the 1/4 mile, but after that they were mine! It was heaven! The music was way better! I remember seeing Hootie and the Blowfish playing at a small venue club a friend of mine had went the night before and said we had to go, it was clear that they were going to be big! We used to go to this club “2001” on Friday nights and the Spanish Galleon on Saturday nights, Crazy Zacks on tues and the Dixie Electric Co. on thurs, college night! There was a place down in garden city called the Sand Piper we would go to that only locals knew about it was a great place to shag! Shagging is a dance you’ll only find in the Carolinas and then sometime we would go to this Club called the Afterdeck, but only if the Chairman and the Board were playing, they’re a Carolina music kind of band! Yeah, it was a great place to be a Chad, I had the time of my life coming of age there. I met my future wife too! Still married to her today after 26yrs of marriage! There was another club we would go to that had good rock and roll and more of a local flavor, Mama Gilberts also known as Kings Road Tavern, if you like a pub feel there was the Gaslight Bar and Grill! They made the best frogmore stew! The girls were so nice and beautiful, they came there to vacation and have a good time, if you could talk a little and dance a little you were half way there! In short it was as close to heaven on earth as you could get! |

User ID: 20206849 United States 09/19/2019 11:53 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I had 79 Pinto station wagon that got better gas mileage than most fuel efficient cars today. If t had issues I could pop the hood and fix it without a computer and special tools. I started dating what would become my wife 7 years later and is still my wife. Actually I was dating 3 girls and hod another cute nerdy girl that was hotting on me. I have no idea how I managed that because I was not the best looking and fit guy around. One girl worked at the theater and I always got to see the movies free if I went to the late show and she would come watch it with me after the ticket booth closed and she counted her money. Another girl worked at the local gas station midnight shift. I would stop by and hang with her after I left the movie. Finally my now wife worked at the hospital in admissions so I saw her when she got off work at 3pm till 9pm. Between all that I worked at a local car part factory and was a UAW member. I also found time to cruise around town and Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg with my friends. I still have no idea how I managed to get by with a couple hours sleep a night. sometime in the early 90s I got a car phone and entertained myself and friends by getting the phone numbers of pay phones and sitting across the street and calling them when people walked by with all sorts of pranks. We would wrap powdered sugar or something up to look like cocaine and put it near the phone and call when someone answered and pretend we were talking to a buyer telling them where it was. Seeing people walk behind the building and come back hiding the package under their shirt and jumping into their cars was great fun. |

In short it was as close to heaven on earth as you could get! I was looking at old video tapes I made in Myrtle Beach in 97 98 a few days ago. Man things have changed so much. The girls were all friendly and only very few had tattoos and the ones that did were the tramp stamps on their back. No crazy crayola head hair colors. I only went once in 89 and it was great. When they shut down the Pavilion it was like taking the heart of myrtle beach and leaving a big empty shell of its former glory. we went every year 2 times a year from 96 till the year after the pavilion was shut down then it was not the same and we have not been back since |

Better technology and medical care for everyone. Way less racism in general and more acceptance of people who once were chastised from society.
