No hate in the late 80's? Obviously you aren't black.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77724058

I lived in Florida and went to a pretty large high school. We had equal black and white on our sports team's. Back then the destructive rap / gang banging culture was not introduced. We all listened and watched MTV which included Lionel Richie, Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Janet Jackson, Whitney Houston... and many more. Black families had 2 parent's everyone was held responsible for thier actions. The SJW white self hate was not even thought of then. We all got along fine there was no hate where I went to school.

I dont care what anyone says. Things are better now. Better technology and medical care for everyone. Way less racism in general and more acceptance of people who once were chastised from society. You would have to be an idiot to think things were better in 1989 than now. Oldtards.

Everything is better in every possible way now. Stop watching TV, playing on your laptop and get outside.

a lil belinda carlyle mad about you on the beach , testarossa ferraris , girls in perms, women didnt put out as much , and people were more personable then everyone was more in contact ironcally , also when somone passed away it was a big deal , today its not so much planet to crowded i guess
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 76525336

They were truly the glory days! I lived in Myrtle Beach S.C. Before it was ruined by consumer tourism. I was a life guard on the beach during the summers, I would tell you the stories about the girls, but they hardly seem real to me anymore. The night clubs were awesome! People actually danced and had fun! I had brand new IROC Camaro that was bad ass! The Mustangs were awesome too and could actually get me in the 1/4 mile, but after that they were mine! It was heaven! The music was way better! I remember seeing Hootie and the Blowfish playing at a small venue club a friend of mine had went the night before and said we had to go, it was clear that they were going to be big! We used to go to this club “2001” on Friday nights and the Spanish Galleon on Saturday nights, Crazy Zacks on tues and the Dixie Electric Co. on thurs, college night! There was a place down in garden city called the Sand Piper we would go to that only locals knew about it was a great place to shag! Shagging is a dance you’ll only find in the Carolinas and then sometime we would go to this Club called the Afterdeck, but only if the Chairman and the Board were playing, they’re a Carolina music kind of band! Yeah, it was a great place to be a Chad, I had the time of my life coming of age there. I met my future wife too! Still married to her today after 26yrs of marriage! There was another club we would go to that had good rock and roll and more of a local flavor, Mama Gilberts also known as Kings Road Tavern, if you like a pub feel there was the Gaslight Bar and Grill! They made the best frogmore stew! The girls were so nice and beautiful, they came there to vacation and have a good time, if you could talk a little and dance a little you were half way there! In short it was as close to heaven on earth as you could get!
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 76619054

I was looking at old video tapes I made in Myrtle Beach in 97 98 a few days ago. Man things have changed so much.
The girls were all friendly and only very few had tattoos and the ones that did were the tramp stamps on their back.
No crazy crayola head hair colors. I only went once in 89 and it was great.
When they shut down the Pavilion it was like taking the heart of myrtle beach and leaving a big empty shell of its former glory. we went every year 2 times a year from 96 till the year after the pavilion was shut down then it was not the same and we have not been back since
 Quoting: Jeff_43

Yeah, after I graduated and had to move into the real world it was hard to take not being there. I still go home, but everything’s changed, like you say, sooo much! No girls had tattoos that I remember, even the strippers didn’t have any as they were supposedly only doing it to pay college tuition, but I never saw any on campus. I’ve been all around the world now and have entertained the idea of moving back close to home, but as Thomas c. Wolfe wrote in “Look Homeward, Angel” You can never go home again. I’ve thought about moving done to Garden City or Muriel’s Inlet, i’m getting close to that time in life to be able to have that option. There so many other places out there too and most of my family is either gone or passed away now anyway. It really was a great place. The little towns around there are still cool, like Conway. Socastee was a nice little community, but has now become the armpit of the area. Anyway, enough reminiscing! Night all!

I saw the Ramones July 4th 1989, Dee Dee quit the next day, I even caught a guitar pic from Johnny Ramone. Saw the Violent Femmes in SF too that summer.

I was 19, it was when Gilman St. was exploding and I think I went to Bad Religion and SNFU that summer at Gilman.

It was back when you were shamed if you were fat, when you had to go out to have fun - no internet, just BBS boards you connected via modem.

No phones, just pay phones.

No illegals either in California, now my home state is a sewer.

It was a hiatus period where schills were nowhere to be seen; instead, they convened under rocks to decide if they were going to run with ice age or warming.

They tossed a coin and went with warming. Took a few years for them to work out who to compromise into their agenda.

Life was good. No war on terror.

There was Transgenders.
One of the best pranks we ever pulled was one night, we were n one of my friends trucks. Marvin and myself in the front. 3 other guys were in back. We went to Knoxville near the UT campus where there was a well known gay nightclub that was known for trans and drag queens called The Carousel. We parked right near the front and the guys n back did not know what the place was and they started flirting with some of the trans that were outside. The look on their face when they found n=out what they had been flirting with was priceless.

I rode around the neighborhood on my bike all day and made out with the other neighborhood girls after having trains flatten pennies on the railroad tracks. My dad was always mowing the grass blasting Boston in his uncomfortably short blue corduroy shorts.
