What are ISP's hiding? | |
Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 69233398 United States 09/20/2019 05:46 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | So I just logged into my router and low and behold, it simply says that IF I do change it to make sure I update any devices using it. I over heard the tech talking to the other tech kid. He was explaining to him how he could log into anyone's router from his phone (from anywhere) and reset the router if he wanted to. I wonder if they don't want people changing it (not because it breaks anything) becaue they want to always have access to your info, search history and anything else. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 7061530 United States 09/20/2019 06:29 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | So I had to call out my ISP yesterday because my internet was wonky. It turned out to be my router/modem combo unit I had. I had purchased my own years ago and I guess it wasn't strong enough to handle the signal strength. Anyways, I told them to go ahead an use their equipment. No big deal. Quoting: Bananafighter What had me interested/confused was that, when I asked if I am able to change the password the tech said I couldn't. That if I did it would effectively break the router and they would have to come back and provide a new one. I asked if I could at least change the network name, again he said no it wasn't possible. My question is, what the hell is going on? You used to be able to go in and change the network name and password in the past. Now for some reason you can't. Is this so they always have access to your equipment or is it something more sinister? Anyone know about this or have thoughts on this? I just pushed the reset button on back and set mine up the way i want. |

I don't want your service if something so simple will break it. |

Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 69233398 United States 09/20/2019 07:46 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | It's honestly funny for me to watch people who do not know much about network technology talk about it. Of course you can change the settings. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 77993688 Obviously I am aware they can be changed. My concern has more to do with the fact that the techs are telling people they can't change their network names or passwords because it will break it. Clearly that's not true so why are they telling people not to change it? Are they hoping that most people will listen and just ignore the fact that it makes no sense? |
