User ID: 76952466 United States 09/21/2019 05:58 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Stage 3 with a colostomy. Mine was 11 years ago, and we're still doing well. We call my appliance Maude (which makes it easier to talk about in everyday life. Husband has an appliance also-hisis a prothesis lower right leg that we call Dudley). Find laughter wherever you can, keep your mind busy. Hopefully you have a great oncologist. Mine stood up for me when I looked him in the eye and told him that I wasn't gonna put up with the 5 pill regimen of the Xeloda daily. It gave me hideous headaches and regular vomiting. He saw that I meant it and we backed the pills off to two a day. Make sure you get a port for the chemo. It doesn't have to be in the chest wall...I met a guy who loved playing baseball and the risk of getting hit in his port in his chest was too great, so they put it in his upper arm (bottom side). I have peripheral neuropathy from the Oxaliplatin, so be really aware of strange feelings in the fingers and toes/feet. If caught early the chances of getting some regrowth of the myelin sheath is raised. Mine didn't raise it's head for several months, and the TENS and physical therapy didn't do anything. I'm now doing acupuncture and massage to help out. Only recently have they decided that acupuncture can help. Someone needs to be her advocate to stand up to doctors and medical billing procedures. Can you do that? Just be there and listen. Even if there is a permanent colostomy, reassure her that she's still the beautiful woman you want to be around (possibly forever?). Life goes on. Survive and Thrive. Last Edited by LindaE on 09/21/2019 05:59 PM |
