Given your thumbnail, I am guessing you are female. (Even if you aren't, this will help some women.)

If you are over 40, your progesterone levels are plummeting. This hormone allows females to both fall asleep and stay asleep.

Get your progesterone levels tested.

If it is low, the doctors will offer you a very high dose of sythetic oral replacement hormone. It is badly absorbed and causes cancers.

Go for the bioidentical cream options, and read everything written by endocrinologist Dr. Lee. (Dead now, but his company still sells his formula.)

if you do consume tea and coffee then you have a sensitivity to caffeine and if you eat dark chocolate it also has a chemical called theobromine which is similar to caffeine.

go outside and run your ass around the block until you're exhausted. after you take a shower and lay down in bed, the tiredness in your legs will spread to the rest of your body and you'll go to sleep.

Kiwi Fruit.

Have a couple about an hour before you want to go to bed. Worked for me. After a couple of weeks I managed to resume a healthy sleeping pattern and did not need the kiwi.

If all else fails. Purple Indica . Tbh most indica strains do the trick.
Mazar-e-Sharif , and Puff Puff Pass Out are particularly effective , both have heavy sadative and narcotic properties. Lights out in no time.

Re: Please share your best remedies for insomnia
Sigh....the first few answers...

Try to stop worrying and care about whatever is happening a LOT less and it will help.
Try running yourself ragged physically. (like a making a child run around outside till they NEED a nap)
Try taking a little L-Theanine (from green tea leaf, calms the sympathetic nervous system and increases brain function)
Try not eating before bed and taking a little honey in a tea spoon amount to encourage synapse firing as well as the feeling of tiredness. (You may dream a bit with the sugar)
Try eating a very clean diet that you cook yourself everyday.
Try thinking about interesting nonsense instead of whatever you are concerned about while you lay down.

Try to relax.

Do Not take human manufactured drugs unless NOTHING else works. Do not take melatonin unless you are planning to stop taking it very quickly.

Be aware that some of these natural remedies are diuretics and will cause you to possibly wake up and need to urinate urgently. Read about each one's side effects before trying.

Some of them effect your thyroid as well and should not be taken for long periods at a time or at all.

Some of them effect blood pressure and you should be cautious if your blood pressure is already fine.

Hawthorn affects heart rate and if your heart rate is fine then you should probably avoid it. So does Valerian root.

Lay on your back with arms and hands up, on chest or behind head. Lay there and don't do nothing for awhile until sleepy. Count sheep and tune-out the World. Then roll over a pass-out.

It's tough when your anxious or in withdrawl, or being harassed.

Try taking a couple asprin, helps.
Background noise helps too, but it also awakens you pre-maturely.

It made me sleepy just thinking about it.
YAWN.
I better get some shut-eye.

Re: Please share your best remedies for insomnia
I forgot a good one that only applies to certain people.

If you use a cpap (hate that name) machine for respiration due to sleep apnea.

I use this type of breathing apparatus...

[link to www.cpapoutlet.ca (secure)]

It fucks up when you turn your head sideways, the pressure pushes it off your nostril and it blows air in your face.

I had to use two pillows and put my head on the side to hang-over the edge so it wouldn't get pushed out of place. But that only lasts as long as your not asleep yet.

I found some subtle remedy that mitigates the basic useless, unhelpful gov. and all doctors (die die die) POS cpap machine.

I like it cool to sleep soundly so I got a insulating cover for the hose so it don't fill with condensation and pour water up My nose in my sleep.

BUT THE BEST CURE OF ALL was when I used an old headscarf like a bandanna, and tied it lightly over top of the head strapping that holds the nozzle on.

It stops it from moving out of place as much and also makes it total dark and peaceful, while I can leave a light on so that intruders, junkies and ghosts can't freak me out waking up in pitch blackness in the middle of the night.

Re: Please share your best remedies for insomnia
Melatonin (spray under the tongue worked best for me).

Benadryl certainly works, but I'm groggy in the morning.

Wild lettuce extract.

Magnesium.

Put a podcast on that's at least semi-interesting while you're laying in bed. Sleep mask. Pretty soon I'm sleeping instead of listening.

I'm told valerian works well, but haven't tried it.

Re: Please share your best remedies for insomnia
Relax your tongue...concentrate on total relaxation of your tongue. Your tongue is connected to the are of your brain that controls speech and if you relax your tongue it will disengage the area of conversation in your brain and your mind will quiet.

As your mind quiets...you relax...as you relax...you fall asleep.

Re: Please share your best remedies for insomnia
Take 40-60mg of a good full spectrum CBD from hemp about 30 minutes before bed along with some Valerian extract, you'll have to experiment a little with Valerian dosage, finish it off with a chamomile tea and lights out. I'd avoid taking melatonin for lengthy periods of time as it will mess up your brains ability to make it.
