Update: Singer Shannon Hoon’s Home Videos turned Documentary is finally released! Update: Shannon’s 52nd Birthday is today; born 9/26/1967... and evidently he shares the same birthday with our (GLP) great family member: Quoting: Bad Pattern Louis in Richmond! Blind Melon’s first record was released 27 years ago today on 9/22/92...Good grief time flies! It’s wasn’t until summer of 93 before the “bee girl” arrived to spread the misconception this band was some goofy spin doctors bubblegum one-hit wonders when in fact they were actually the opposite...the real deal whom a lot of people, especially from growing up in nightmarish small towns and or stifling environments could really relate with back then... So overlooked and underrated; cut short before their prime. Shannon would’ve loved the internet/social media. I wish Shannon could have seen and utilized YouTube and while I’m at it, I also wish that late comedian Mitch Hedberg had seen/utilized Twitter. Documentary about Shannon will hopefully be released someday... “All I Can Say” is an immersive view into the life and world of an artist navigating the 1990s... Shannon Hoon, the lead singer of Blind Melon, routinely filmed himself from 1990 to 1995. The footage captures the sum trajectory of Hoon’s career. It begins with his roots in rural Indiana, follows his move to Los Angeles, where he forms Blind Melon, and watches their stars rise as they become emblematic figures of music video culture. All the while, Hoon navigates the trappings of substance abuse, which ultimately took his life. The film begins and ends with footage that Hoon captured on the day that he died of an overdose. Man they had so much promise. To this day they are still very relevant. GREAT BAND! |

What’s so exceptionally amazing to me is that most hardcore Melonheads are kindred spirits in at least one form or another. Their music continues to unite really cool down to earth people who at least try to be as happy as possible and enjoy every single day God gives us on this planet, long as you try and do the best you can...their music is a fountain of youth elixir to certain very special souls. Update: Singer Shannon Hoon’s Home Videos turned Documentary is finally released! Link for rental: [link to allicansay.oscilloscope.net (secure)] (DVD sales projected for August 2020 release) Shannon Hoon, lead singer of the rock band Blind Melon, filmed himself from 1990-95 with a Hi8 video camera, recording up until a few hours before his sudden death at the age of 28. His camera was a diary and his closest confidant. In the hundreds of hours of footage, Hoon meticulously documented his life – his family, his creative process, his television, his band’s rise to fame and his struggle with addiction. He filmed his daughter’s birth, and archived the politics and culture of the 90’s, an era right before the internet changed the world. Created with his own footage, voice and music, this intimate autobiography is a prescient exploration of experience and memory in the age of video. It is also Shannon Hoon’s last work, completed 23 years after his death. *upper right corner click “view from home”, then select theater you wish to support and for $11 you’ll get a 3 day stream rental.
