Re: CDC Says Illegal Vape Drugs, Not Vaping, Responsible For Rash Of Hospitalizations
FWIW: Rumors here in Colorado is that a rogue group (un regulated/taxed and not inspected, i.e., black market) is selling cannabis vape products (mostly THC) diluted with vitamin E acetate instead of the allowed diluents like MCT oil, etc. Vit E is for topical/ingestion use only and should never be vaped as it will cause a hard oily buildup in the lungs. The problem is that Vit E oil is very cheap in comparison to the allowed diluents.

These "rumors" are coming from a very good source and Colorado may be the origination point for these black market products.

Hope this is helpful.

i doubt it. co as the originator that is. nothing on east coast originates there. all online or ca where cheap chinese shit flows in. tubes, pens, all that shit. just smoke good flower, which also comes from ca. its the wild wild west at the moment with vaping thc, and to say 6 people died out of millions is quite impressive. how many died last night from drinking?

It's pretty obvious. Common sense would tell you it's street stuff otherwise we would have THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE suffering and dying from these symptoms.

True. And whatever additive is going into the THC, it sounds like it's oil-based. Not good for the lungs. Legit vape stuff, won't hurt you. I vape and my lungs are perfect.

“ Eighty percent of those patients reported the use of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the psychoactive component of cannabis, she said.”

And the other 20% lied because they don’t want their parents to know they get high.

How far away from each other is each incident ? You would think there would at least be some geographic clusters of some sort

Dr Dana Meaney-Delman is leading the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s investigation into the culprit behind at least five confirmed deaths and 450 reported cases of lung illness linked with use of the devices.

The agency is recommending that people refrain from the use of any electronic cigarette or vaping device until there is more conclusive evidence of a cause, she said in an interview.

“We’re trying to prevent any additional cases and deaths,” Meaney-Delman said.

She has reviewed data so far from 64 patients, including cases published on Friday in the New England Journal of Medicine as well as other reports. Eighty percent of those patients reported the use of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the psychoactive component of cannabis, she said.

Ehhh... I saw this coming and stocked up on vape juice well ahead of Andrew "Ice Pick" Cuomo's NY vape juice ban. I have over a year's supply on hand. I'll look for other options in the meantime, and if I decide to quit, I'llbe able to sell it for lots of monies.

This reminds me of the banning of L-tryptophan- which, of course, is just an amino acid. A bad batch hurt a bunch of people and in the media frenzy that followed they ended up banning it from the early 90s to 2005.

bunch of kids die trying to get high on back alley thc carts so everyone wants to ban all vape products. yet i can still go anywhere and buy tobacco, proven beyond doubt to kill you and still no effort to ban the sale of that. maybe the vape industry has been killing off that valuable tax revenue a little too well recently. they're after the vape industry just as hard as guns. disarmed and taxed to death.
