We practiced living off the grid this weekend.
Grabbed our bug out bags and set up camp in an out of the way place. We used no electricity, sorted out our individual jobs of who will do what if/when/as needed and it was a great learning experience. We made coffee a couple different ways with different pots/sources. We cooked an assortment of foods and discovered what pans work better for pancakes, which pans worked better for hamburgers, and other items. Not everything tasted great. Burned the first couple of eggs, then after a couple changes with our fire the eggs and other food greatly improved. We also used two different stoves besides the fire pit area. All in all we learned a lot.We took pleanty of notes. It definitely was worth it to get out of our comfy home and practice a little bit. The MRE “test” sure brought back a lot of memories.

I recommend everyone try to find a way to practice, master their survival skills before you need them. You never know what small item you’ll wish you had remembered to have with you when you can’t easily go grab it.

We didn’t go to a park We camped in our own woods. One thing that surprised me is how much more water we need to get ahold of, or at least we need a couple different forms of water purification tools. We went through 3 to 4 times more water than we had anticipated. Drinking water, cleaning water, we simply need more water than expected,

Yup. Our water was off many years ago for a week. I found out rather quickly that you need MUCH more than the 1 gallon per person per day that they say you need.

Re: We practiced living off the grid this weekend.
This is probably the most critical thing you can do, is to actually practice what you would need to do.

I've run scenarios where I simply pull the switch on the power, put away the phone, and now what? Surprisingly all the things that are missing when you think you are prepared, even in a bug in scenario.

Another good one to run for people who plan to "bug out" by vehicle is to actually load you vehicle like you would, time it, and then bug out on a holiday weekend to try to simulate traffic. You end up not being able to take 1/2 the stuff, it takes 3 times as long to load as you think, and it will take 50% longer to get there than you anticipate.

You can get a jump start on any situation by role playing each scenarios and walk through what you will need/need to do, but ultimately you do have to practice.

True this!

We stayed local woods for this weekends trial. Mountains in NC and WV are our closest getaways, huge acreage in AR for a mid country run if required, and the flat, marshy, sea breezy Florida area if nukes hit north of us.

The upper portion of Michigan's Lower Peninsula is easy to get to but crossing the Mackinac bridge could be troublesome unless you are coming from Wisconsin or Minnesota.

Good on you!! My suggestion to people is to always have on hand a couple of 5 gal jugs of water to bring with you. Priority!! Also a way of purifying non- potable water., you must also think of a way to retrieve water, a cheap hand siphon pump usually can behad for cheap at harbor freight. Get 2 , one for fuel and one dedicated to water. You learn by practice, I commend you. 5 stars

From my old post on glp.

You have a year to prepare, no excuses now.

Bugout here for a week in Sept 2019

[link to www.google.com (secure)]

What Makes us so unique, and why are we different than all the other survival camping?

Maybe it’s our Community First Attitude!! Ever since we’ve been practicing bushcraft and survival we’ve always said how important community is going to be when Stuff Hit’s The Fan.

We need to support one another now, so when times of strife and struggle arrive we know who’ll be on our support team.

We’re not looking for a hand out, we’re offering a hand up.

That is exactly what a community does when it comes together, lifts everyone up!!!

Anyone can come, man or women, young or old. First time just learn to Camp, next year learn to Survive. Great people, great conversations, simply a great time.

You can stay the day, the night, a couple days or all week.

Think about it now, prepare now. Will bump in 6 months.

So you went camping?

Doesn't even sound like you practiced any fieldcraft, just played with fire.

I wish I could tell you how many mags I loaded this weekend. We did not sit and play house, that’s for sure. We practiced a SHTF scenario, found our strengths in some areas and learned we’re not as ready in some other areas as previously thought. We’re better off than we were a year ago, always willing to learn more, master new crafts.

Even if you get ahold of a couple “water purification straws” and a hanging filtration bag, don’t wait too long. You need the water to sustain life.

Berkey filters $100/pair and quantity 2 five gallon buckets work great. The Upper bucket will need some small wholes drilled in the bottom to let the stem of the filters through.

Berkey Backpacker model here, needs one filter. You can throw mud in it and get water lol

I will post all I got for water later ok

Or you could just use ash from your fire and sand. Has worked for thousands of years. Those filters gonna run out/gum up quick.

Poncho hung up on all 4 corners and bucket under head opening. Collapsible 5 gallon container filled. Also boiling water.
