My bank keeps asking me what my occupation is when I do a transaction at the bank. Why the repeated question?

They generally don't ask me what my occupation is, but what annoys me is when I'm making a large withdrawal they always ask, what's this for? I just tell them it's none of their concern. I hate it when they try to make small talk too,I'm not looking to make a friend, just doing some banking.

I don't mind that my back knows my occupation but I don't like saying my occupation over and over at the transaction desk at the bank to the teller.

why are they suddenly so zealous to ask me my occupation? I've done no large cash deposits, my accounts are well managed, been with this bank for 20 years.

I don't know about down there, but I would simply say my occupation is 'minding my own fucking business, is my occupation' now do my transaction.

They're trying to catch people slipping hoping they accidentally claim to have a occupation which is something other than the occupation which was first stated. In such a case they will report you to the IRS for tax evasion/tax fraud and as a result they will receive cut of around 30% of the collected sum.

Sales small talk to sell you stuff like credit cards, COD's and the like.
