Re: The racist history of the Democratic Party
Yes, the Dems are a racist bunch, but in looking back at the inception of the Republican Party and their champion Abe Lincoln, was he any better?

Numerous Constitutional violations, indifference to slavery, wanted to ship freed slaves back to Africa, and many high crimes and misdemeanors.

Even so, blacks were Republican supporters until the tactical blunders by the likes of Nixon, and Goldwater.

You mean tactical blunders like not giving them free stuff, and not putting up with their criminality? Its no coincidence that problems in the black population became much worse after the civil rights era. They were no longer held to the white mans standards. What you see today is mostly the natural expression of what they are.

No, I mean tactical blunders like Nixon's Southern Strategy and Goldwater refusing to support the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

Please explain why any white person should have supported the civil rights act. What did we get out of it? Its been an unmitigated disaster for everyone. Thats the problem with trying to get black votes. You end up having to let them destroy Detroit and pretend it isn't their fault while dumping massive amounts of money on them for no return.

Nixon's southern strategy was to appeal to those democrats (conservatives) that had had their fill of the racist policies of the Democrat party.

Goldwater refused to support the Civil Rights act because he saw it as unconstitutional and for no other reason.

The truth is that Blacks across the nation had been supporting the Democrats since FDR except in the south where they were not allowed to vote because Democrats were scared that they would vote republican.

Lincoln's "Numerous Constitutional violations, indifference to slavery, wanted to ship freed slaves back to Africa, and many high crimes and misdemeanors" were all based upon successfully ending an armed revolt by the Democrats against the United States of America.

Lincoln's political goal during the 1860 election was to end slavery through legislation in the congress; the Southern Democrats revolted and seceded before Lincoln was even sworn into office. He did whatever was necessary to restore the Union.

My God, you ignorance of the true causes of the War for Southern Independence and your misplaced idolatry of Lincoln, a man that would have be summarily hanged by the Founders of the country, is unbelievable.

If you want to discuss this with me at least be "civil" about it...

Unlike Trump, Lincoln was an astute Politician and always held his cards close to his vest.

Lincoln wanted to end slavery with an amendment ratified by Congress but before he did that he had to get the democrats to argue the issue in Congress.

They refused to argue and seceded instead before Lincoln was even sworn in. To make matters worse as soon as they rebelled against the United States they seized as much military equipment as they could throughout the south.

Those are historical facts that cannot be disputed no matter how you want to frame your argument.

I can also make the case that secession was unconstitutional because like Statehood it would require a vote in the US Congress in order that the individual states be allowed to separate from the Union. By not arguing their rights before Congress every thing that the south did during secession was illegal and an armed revolt against the nation as a whole, as well as an affront to those southern citizens that wanted to remain in the union and did not support armed rebellion for slavery.
