The Florida Constitution allows a governor to suspend elected officials, but the final decision is up to the Florida Senate, which is set to decide whether to reinstate or permanently remove Israel in a special session the week of Oct. 21. Senators were already scheduled to be in Tallahassee that week for committee work in advance of next year’s legislative session.
