Dumbfuck put silicone around the window, and then installed it backwards!

what a dolt.
 Quoting: dolt 40210044

So you would install it with the lock outside ?
 Quoting: Wild Edibles

The flange would nest inside the frame, so this window was a 2nd storm window, and would go from the inside of the structure for security and aesthetics. Your lock means nothing if a burgler can get to the exposed screws and unscrew them!

Its like a how-not-to install a window video!

Most windows are installed from the outside. The screws or nails are covered by trim boards.

I am learning to cut holes and install windows and doors in a shipping container. Planning to create a totally solar powered living space.

Shipping Container would probably stand up a lot better against bad weather unlike a mobile home or cheaply built wooden shack.

Interior storm windows were the way to 'double pane' your windows in the 70's. That's what this window is. Fits from the inside. The way you've installed it, it will leak and its not secure .

I hope this helps

This window was free from the dump and it will be covered by a roof overhang.. like I said in the video. No rain will get to it.

also, i do not think that thin gauge metal would do well underground as another poster suggested

thousands of pounds of dirt plus rain would buckle it in a couple years

i had no idea shipping containers used such thin, bendable metal. i thought they were solid

I knew there was something different about this old window but I figured I’d use it anyway. The video is mainly about cutting the hole and using a wood frame instead of welding.

Ya, the walls would have to be reinforced because of the weight of the dirt.

Condensation is a deal breaker.

If you aren’t going to ship it somewhere, you’d be better off in an old RV.

Had a buddy who tried the container house thing. He lost everything to the mold and ended up with toxoplasmosis. He lived in my garage for a year after that, and said it was better than the container.

I’m going to try insulation on the outside instead of inside to see if that helps with condensation problems
