WashPost: ‘Ethnic Food’ Aisle a ‘Bastion of Racism’
Leave it to the Washington Post to pioneer coverage of what may be the next great civil rights struggle. Food reporter Tim Carman has uncovered the white supremacy inherent in supermarket organization. According to food influencer David Chang (yeah, that’s a thing, I guess) “the ethnic food aisle, that is sort of the last bastion of racism that you can see in full daylight in retail America.”

Come on now, you know what he’s talking about. Picture the ethnic food aisle of your local Giant Food Way Lion. It’s not like the rest of the bright, clean, well-ordered aisles, is it? It’s a dark, chaotic ghetto glowering among the gleaming streets of the grocery metropolis. It's thronged with old women selling plucked geese and one eyed men betting on cock fights. A place polite people don’t mention at the dinner table.

No? Okay, maybe that’s just my local supermarket. Anyway, David Chang, who influences food, thinks you probably think about it like that. And Tim Carman, who writes about food, says that “to others, especially children of immigrants who may already feel pushed to the margins of the American mainstream, the supermarket can be just another place to experience the sting of their outsider status.”

Man, the children of immigrants are some fragile little cupcakes.

The sting occurs whenever they walk down the “ethnic” food aisle, the section of the supermarket that, to some, plays out like a remnant of the Jim Crow era, when laws established separate facilities for African Americans in the post-Reconstruction South.

OMFG......these snowflakes wake each morning looking for things that offends them.....

Food is one of the last honest things we have.....

Why? Cuz if something taste bad to you, you'll won't eat it regardless of how "diverse" it is and no amount of influence will change that....

What does this food reporter think about Asian markets? surely they are not inclusive of other races.....so ain't they "racist" too?....

I agree. Why should the ethnics have their food so conveniently located? The rest of us have to either memorize the store’s layout, wander aimlessly, or humiliate ourselves asking for help. You want your rice noodles or tortillas? You search for it among 39 aisles like all those racist white people.

Only then will we all be equal.

Yeah, that was sarcasm. I don’t really care one way or the other. I do love Mexican Coke, though, and always know exactly where it’s gonna be for now. If they move it to the Coke aisle, it might be a bit harder to spot.

I've said it once, I'll say it again, I'm Irish, Greek, American Indian, Dutch, European Spanish, and Black. I look Greek. Just that simple. Except in Oklahoma, where, I'm automatically Indian in spite of being on 3/64 Cherokee.

My DNA profile shows just 4% "Native American" but 7% African. I grew up in a poor section of town with a single mom. When my mom remarried, we moved to the country. I grew up in the 1980s around blacks, whites, Hispanics.

The only---and I mean the ONLY---people who have ever treated me badly, been abusive to me based on race, or treated me "unequal" are white liberals. Especially, white liberal academics who were baby boomers.

White liberals are destroying America!

(Oh and that is just the mix on my dad's side! Go some Italian and Russian/Eastern European on my mom's side. I'm fuckin' American mutt. "Pure race" is the myth of inbred white trash and black separatists.)

The leftists have been pushing this BS for years now, even having ethnic cuisines removed off menus in college cafeterias. I'm a devout health nut of European lineage & mostly live off broccoli & spinach, but when I stray outside my nutrition regime, I get Chinese food, Japanese sushi, Korean BBQ, etc.

Bunch of assholes.

If the 'ethnic' food was mixed in with all the 'regular' food then the libtards would claim cultural appropriation.

There is no satisfying libtards cause all they want to do is complain.

Are chinese restaurants racist too?

What If I want to go to my local soul food place?

Maybe all the restaurants should serve the same food.

How about grey gruel and porridge with two slices of bread?

Thats where this will end.

I thought 'diversity' was a good thing? How they hell are you suppose to find any damn thing in the supermarket if the canned vegetables aren't in the canned vegetable aisle, the pasta and gravy aren't in that aisle and the chink food isn't in the chink aisle?

I suppose they should just throw it all in a bug pile in the middle and let everyone sort it out on their own... that way the food won't feel discriminated against?

OMG! That was both hilarious and pathetic.

Growing up I almost never got to have the foods of my ethnicity. Unless my grandmother and other Polish church ladies were cooking it for some event.

If only I had known how damaging it would have been to have an entire section of the store that carried the "poor" people's food of Eastern European immigrants. I could have been offended by the Pierogi, insulted by Pelmeni, and grossed out by Galbki. I can just picture my six year old self wandering the Polish food aisle like some outcast waif, wondering why "my" food was relegated to it's own section.

I'd also have been wearing a Babushka on my head to be further alienated from the predominant culture.

It was, just like "tolerance" was, but they're moving on to the next phase now. First, they get you to put up with something. Then, they integrate it fully which is why you see all these interracial ads on TV now. The ultimate goal was never diversity; it was, and is, a homogeneous population of docile, light brown gender-fluid people of slightly below current average intelligence.

I'm sure plenty do considering how fat some of these immigrants are, but at least where I live, there's huge demand for real Mexican food. They even have their own grocery stores, typically located in older, smaller grocery stores that were built before the big boxes took over. Don't go in one, though. I made that mistake once looking for some authentic Mexican food for a party. I've never gotten so many drop-dead looks in my life. They do not like gringos in their stores, apparently.
