It can't get wet, it's not the water they worry about its the waterborne bacteria that's a concern. Quoting: BBQ BOY™ So everyday chores like showering become a chore. My wife got him in the kitchen today and washed his hair in the sink, afterwards He was able to get into the bathtub and bathe. I had bleached the tub and all surroundings prior to him bathing. He said he feels like a new man. Lol. Smells like one too. So Wednesday is the big day for all of us .. Biopsy day. Dialysis tomorrow, Biopsy Wednesday, Dialysis Thursday, cardiologist Friday, Dialysis Saturday... never ending. Temporary’s are quickly replaced, trust me I know cause of my mother and me being her care giver. The long term port, is he getting one? I talked to mom today and checked on her status, they gave her a shot to boost her white cells count, her and I did not like that, we wanted it to happen naturally, she got slightly ill. Also checked her levels, still too high but she is still running circles around her boys lol God bless you and your family! Don't let them convince you he has cancer and needs chemo. They kill people with chemo man! ```````````````` ````__/\__`````` ~~~\____/~~~~ .~~..~~~....~~~ ~..~~~....~~~~ Thoughts do not come from you nor God; you do not create thoughts; you are not your thoughts; every thought is a lie. - 2 Corinthians 10:5 - [link to www.biblegateway.com (secure)] |

The more people praying the better! Pray that God would miraculously heal Dakota, raise up a donor who is a match, or redeem a death by providing a kidney from a donor who has passed away. Pray for wisdom for Dakota's family, for Dakota's nephrology team, and his other specialists as they manage his health daily. Pray for Dakota to know God more, to see His mercy daily, and to cast his cares on Jesus. |

Oh buddy, so sorry to hear about your sons health, prayers for a full and speedy recovery! I am not sure where your sons port is located, but my dad has a double port in his chest from Leukemia treatment, they did under the skin chest port, but you can ask the hospital for sterile (they are a clear, like 4x4” square) waterproof bandage you can put over the port location for the bathing purpose. We had to do this for about 3 months until the port was fully healed under the skin. Now he’s fine to shower/bathe but we are 3 years in. Also, make sure they are flushing his port regularly! This is a super must, even if they are giving treatment through the port and/or taking blood CBC’s from the port regularly, they need to also flush the port at a maximum every 2 weeks. We learned this the very scary hard way, do not let the docs neglect this port maintenance. Again, prayers for your son and your whole family! |

(OP) User ID: 77857043 United States 11/15/2019 07:17 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Friday Update. I gave you a update yesterday from the Dialysis center crew. So we got it from the Horse's mouth today. They did a sonogram and ultrasound on his left arm today to make sure he was getting proper blood flow thru there. The reason for that is because that's where the AV fistula port will be installed. That will require surgery and that has been scheduled for December the 12th. Once the Fistula port is installed it cant be used for 6 to 8 weeks, So he will have two ports, one in his arm and the current one in his chest. He will not be going back to work anytime in the near future and hes going to tell his employer that tomorrow. They have been very supportive of his absence for the past 50 days or so. Our next move will be to take him down and apply for SSI. Very emotional time at our home yesterday and today. But God never gives us more than we can digest, and our house trusts the plan. Thank all of you for your support and prayers. BBQ Boy and Family. "Never underestimate the pain of a person. In all honesty, everyone is struggling. Anonymous Coward User ID: 76984449 United States 11/15/2019 08:30 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Thank you. Sundays and Mondays are the best days around here, it's the two days off between dialysis. So it's chill time. His schedule for now is Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. With travel time to and fro its almost a six hour process three days a week. We are down to single digit countdown until the Biopsy, nine days away now. But we have heard it could be another two weeks or longer before we get word of the results. Very stressful. On everyone. We are having to relearn how to shop and cook, we cant afford to cook separate meals for Dakota so we are eating whats he is having. My wife and I are having to season our food after its cooked. I think I've taken the plunge down the CKD (Chronic Kidney Disease ) Rabbitthole more than anyone else. I'm doing what a GLPer would do, research and fact checking and I've joined a few forums to hear first hand accounts. That's about where we are as of today 11/4/19 We thank all of you for your continuous support. Y’all are wonderful parents. |

I know a man that had a kidney transplant in his 20's, and he fathered two children and is now a healthy 60 year old. When he applies for SSI, inquire about applying for Medicaid. Medicaid (Medical Assistance) is different than Medicare (or SSI). Medicare pays 80%. Medicaid will pay the 20% balance left after Medicare pays. He should qualify for Medical Assistance with zero income. However, they may count the income he has received this year through September. He may be able to keep his insurance through his employer through COBRA. The premium he would pay would be less than the medical bills, but the premium would be high. Ask the social worker at the dialysis facility for help. This stuff is confusing and I know not what anyone wants to think about. Prayers and blessings for your whole family. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 76867438 Also SSI isn't instant, there is a waiting period. Sometimes they are helpful, sometimes it's complicated. COBRA, check into it. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 76867438 YES YES YES You have to go to family services, DSHS and apply for medicaid and assistance. It can take a very long time for SSI to kick in. They can also help with back medical expenses. You have to do it now, they only go back a short time but will cover 100% of your medical after he is on it. |
