Unbelievable! They want to reschedule a surgery that they screwed up the first time because they might not get paid. They shouldn't get paid anyway. If they had done their job correctly the first time, they wouldn't need to do it again. Good for you that you asked if they were denying him treatment. Keep up the good work. We're all rooting for you and your son. Prayers always.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 76867438

Not the first time they screwed up. They attempted to put a port in his neck, twice, before they finally got one into his chest. Then the Failed Fistula. 1 in 4 success rate.

Re: My Family could use some Spiritual support right now. - update page 85
When I was 19 and my daughter was just 1 year old, she had a tumor on her foot. It had to be removed, and it needed 2 skin graft surgeries. She was at Children's Hospital of Phila, (so you know that's not cheap) for 2 weeks.

Anyway, this was before HMO's, so her bills fell under "major medical". We had our deductible, and 80% coverage. Once we hit $20K (in deductibles) we went to 100% coverage. I was 19 years old and owed $20,000!

So you know what I did? I paid it. I paid them $20 per month, because that's all I could afford. Then, when I made more money, I paid them $50/month, and so on.

My point is you can't squeeze lemon out of a turnip. You make ridiculous payment arrangements, and as long as you keep up with your payments they can't come after you.

Yes, I paid the entire thing off, eventually.

End of story.

Our son is racking up 20K in bills in a week. And he is unable to work he has End Stage Renal Disease. Total cost of medical bills so far has exceeded 1.25 million dollars. That's just under 120 days of medical costs. These cost will continue for the rest of his life with the chance of a kidney transplant putting a 5 to 10 year break in there. I don't see any way of him ever paying his percentage, of that off. We have always paid our bills, but his case is different, he is terminally ill, without dialysis he will die and he is unable to work.

How the hell do they justify $2700 for a vitamin shot?

There is no one on this planet that could convince me that price is fair...that is fucking highway robbery at its worst.

We get billed $101 -$113 per empty plastic syringe that they use each time at Dialysis. It's usually two per treatment sometimes three.

Today is 109 days since Dakota was first Hospitalized, I keep a running tab of the medical costs as the bills come in.

One Million two hundred and sixteen thousand dollars so far. And that's not a accurate number because we have not got the bills for the last seven Dialysis treatments and three Hospital appointments. A rough estimate of those costs would be around 60 to 70K.

BBQ Boy, this is a horror story from beginning to end.

A innocent family meal at a restaurant was the catalyst for a life of misery, if I understood your initial posts.

You should write a book about this experience, speak the truth, expose the guile and deceit that is at the core in our Administrative End of the medical industry.

Doctors, nurses and most in the medical field love the ART of Healing, they too are prisoners of the money grubbing end of the Administration Departments.

Such a sad day for everyone, especially you , your son and your family.

We filed a new one per the Attorneys request, The amount of time between claims was three weeks I think. The reason a new one was required because this one is under Moms SS credits.

We have a few days break from this madness, today and tomorrow. Then next week it's a busy schedule again.

Tue: Dialysis
Wen: Cardiovascular Team does a vein mapping at MCG
Thur: Dialysis
Fri: Cardiovascular Team consultation on Vein mapping at MCG
Sat: Dialysis

We should find out Friday when they will do the next surgery to install the Arteriovenous graft (AV Graft)

One of the advantages about the Arteriovenous graft is it doesn't have to "Mature" like a Fistula and can be used in 24 hours after created. We will all be glad to see that chest port be removed. And I'm sure after 120 days of bathing in a tub Dakota will be happy to get a shower again.

I'll update as soon as we learn something new.

An AV graft would be my choice over a fistula any day, for an elderly person. Actually for ANY person.

Fistulas too iffy, take too long, etc.

I don't know if grafts can cause any of the complications fistulas can - like the steal syndrome, or heart complications.

Showering will be great! I see some with chest CVCs who don't mind not taking a shower, but most people mind.

if I myself could not avoid dialysis, it would be peritoneal.

not having my blood in the machine would mean a lot to me.

heard talk of transplants today. Age is a limiting factor for many I know who might want it - high elderly.
