It had to be removed, and it needed 2 skin graft surgeries. She was at Children's Hospital of Phila, (so you know that's not cheap) for 2 weeks. Quoting: Wildthing3 Anyway, this was before HMO's, so her bills fell under "major medical". We had our deductible, and 80% coverage. Once we hit $20K (in deductibles) we went to 100% coverage. I was 19 years old and owed $20,000! So you know what I did? I paid it. I paid them $20 per month, because that's all I could afford. Then, when I made more money, I paid them $50/month, and so on. My point is you can't squeeze lemon out of a turnip. You make ridiculous payment arrangements, and as long as you keep up with your payments they can't come after you. Yes, I paid the entire thing off, eventually. End of story. Our son is racking up 20K in bills in a week. And he is unable to work he has End Stage Renal Disease. Total cost of medical bills so far has exceeded 1.25 million dollars. That's just under 120 days of medical costs. These cost will continue for the rest of his life with the chance of a kidney transplant putting a 5 to 10 year break in there. I don't see any way of him ever paying his percentage, of that off. We have always paid our bills, but his case is different, he is terminally ill, without dialysis he will die and he is unable to work. since he is an AdULT.. why is he NOT on Medicaid... Some of this may be due to us not being able to provide my wifes W-2 form to them yet. She works for the city and they dont give them out until the last payday of the month which will be the Friday the 31st. After the vein mapping on wednesday we had a consultation with Vascular team, they have scheduled another surgery for Feb 13th 5:30 a.m. This will be the third attempt to install a permanent access point. Last surgery they tried in two places and both failed. We got some good results from the Fresenius Lab this week, all his levels were at or above goal, other than protein levels. The Fresenius Financial adviser also gave us a form to file for financial assistance through The Kidney Foundation. Why they didn't give us this when his insurance expired is beyond me. So that's where we stand as of today. Thank you all for all the support you have given our son and us as well "Never underestimate the pain of a person. In all honesty, everyone is struggling.
