Ok, any genre as you requested, I've read over 1500 books, heres a list of books I've read more than twice, you cannot judge a book by its cover or reviews, you must entertain the book yourself and I guarantee if you read any of the books I will recommend you will agree.

1-- Battlefield Earth by L Ron Hubbard
2-- Swan Song by Robert McCammon
3-- Pillars of the earth by Ken Follet
4-- The Stand by Stephen King
5--World without end by Ken follet, this is a sequel to pillars that was written like 20 years later.

These are all awesome books, the type of book that cannot be put down and will keep you up late at night in your bed reading.

I hope I was able to contribute, good luck and good reading!!

I like Ken Follet. I haven't read anything by him in a while.

Sidney Sheldon, Jeffery Archer. Heck, my dad used to give me Nick Carter (Kill master Spy thrillers) books to read.

Re: Which books have you read that you couldn't put down after reading?
I seriously doubt we are into the same genre. It has been a while since I read a good book. My favs are the regency romance. My favorite authors is Marion Chesney. Other authors are Madeline Brent, Judith Merkle Reilly. Laura Willig.

I like Carole Nelson Douglas Goodnight Irene and Good Morning Mr. Holmes where the heroine is a female Sherlock Homes. After those two she gets a little bizzare.

The Jester by James Patterson is great!

I loved The Thirteen Tale by Diane Setterfield. I listened to it on Audio book.

Laura Willig has never written a bad book. I like The English Wife and The Ashford Affair. Those are not in the Regency genre.

I think the last good book I read was John Grisham's the Rooster Bar. It was not his best but it was good.

There are several more that I would recommend but I can't think of the author or name of the books. I will check back later and see if this is still going.

I get a lot of stuff from the library.

Re: Which books have you read that you couldn't put down after reading?
Target Tokyo: Jimmy Doolittle and the Raid That Avenged Pearl Harbor. The book chronicles the first U.S. major attack directly on Japan, only four months after Pearl Harbor. The Japanese were kicking ass all over the Pacific, and American morale needed a significant boost. Told is the story of 80 men, volunteers all, that chose to embark on what could very well have been a one-way mission. The sheer audacity and daring to launch U.S. Army bombers from Navy aircraft carriers to take the war to the Japanese islands is amazing in and of itself.

Notably, each volunteer was given numerous opportunities to back out of the mission, no questions asked. No man gave up his seat. Even while on the way to Japan, backup crews tried to bribe the volunteers to give up their seat, which no man did. Although the mission was supposed to end with the men landing in 'free China,' no plane made it that far. As each plane ran out of gas, the men had to parachute in the blackness of the night to face their fate. The recovery and survival of the crews is an amazing adventure in and of itself. The survival of one crew in Japanese confinement is compellingly illustrated by the single Bible they were allowed to possess and the faith that kept them alive until the end of the war.

It's not just a war story, but an insightful look at humanity and the strength of men's souls under duress.
Isaiah 40:31 - But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.

Wouldn’t Robert Taylor, (Walt Longmire from Longmire) play an excellent role as John Matherson in a film adaption? He was the only guy I could picture while I read this.

My writing is influenced by Clive Cussler, Michael Crichton and a small part Tom Clancy.

It's about a black ops team - similar to the Mission Impossible team.

Fiction:
The Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan.
First book is Eye of the World.
There are 14 books should keep you busy for about 6 months.
 Quoting: catnahalf

That depends whether you include the prequel New Spring.

Can't wait for the series to start but I suspect it will be ruined by pc. as they have totally ignored Jordan's character descriptions so far for the casting.

Stranger in a strange land by Robert Hienlen, and Siddartha by Herman Hesse. A few of the quotes below are from Siddartha. One I really liked, but was very hard to read was The praise of Folly by Erasmus.

"The Caine Mutiny" by Herman Wouk. The book won the Pulitzer Prize for fiction in 1952. It details background leading up to what may or may not have been a mutiny aboard a a US destroyer-minesweeper in WWII and the subsequent court martial.

An excellent motion picture by the same title was adapted from the novel.

Re: Which books have you read that you couldn't put down after reading?
went to B&N to get you the link to a fantastic science fiction series by Doris Lessing. They have the first one. So fantastic. I think I want to re-read.

[link to www.barnesandnoble.com (secure)]

This is the first volume in the series of novels Doris Lessing calls collectively Canopus in Argos: Archives. Presented as a compilation of documents, reports, letters, speeches and journal entries, this purports to be a general study of the planet Shikasta–clearly the planet Earth–to be used by history students of the higher planet Canopus and to be stored in the Canopian archives. For eons, galactic empires have struggled against one another, and Shikasta is one of the main battlegrounds.Johar, an emissary from Canopus and the primary contributor to the archives, visits Shikasta over the millennia from the time of the giants and the biblical great flood up to the present. With every visit he tries to distract Shikastans from the evil influences of the planet Shammat but notes with dismay the ever-growing chaos and destruction of Shikasta as its people hurl themselves towards World War III and annihilation.
