User ID: 72547754 United States 10/05/2019 01:33 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | If you are in need of a good laugh ( or laughing fits) ..... and who isn’t these days, Handling Sin by Michael Malone will do the trick! I love many other of his books but this is my favorite of his and on my list of all time favorite books! I like to reread it every few years and it still makes me laugh even though I know what is coming . It is the story of a “normal guy” whose life is turned upside down by his supposedly dying father who runs off on an adventure and the Hilarious trek to find him. It starts in a small town in North Carolina and moves through South Carolina, Georgia , Alabama and over to New Orleans. It will particularly appeal to people who have had family that grew up in the South, but that is not a prerequisite to enjoying this book. Malone is excellent at drawing his characters, so much so that they feel like They are living and breathing and all are flawed and ever so human. I have given this book to many people through the years and everyone of them loved it ! |

I have 26 bookcases full of children and old friends. Decisions decisions... Behind every myth lies a mystery, and every legend holds an echo of the truth …… Que Sera Sera "For not by numbers of men nor by measure of body but by valor of soul is war decided" Bilisarius " At the siege of Vienna in 1683 Islam seemed poised to overrun Christian Europe. We are in a new phase of a very old war." Gates of Vienna. Anonymous Coward User ID: 53675735 United States 10/05/2019 02:13 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Big subject. Of course, there are the greats, like the Tao de Ching, the Lord of the Rings Trilogy, which I reread parts of for some time, and Raymond Feist's Magician, the original and long version, published 10 years after the severely edited version which the publisher required. Velikovsky's Worlds in Collision is stunning, not because of his theories, which have no interest to me whatsoever. It is full of researched quotes about world events as recorded in many cultures. He brings in the tale of the Chinese Emperor, Egyptians, and many others around the world from the same events. He read many languages (9 I think) and had access to the world's greatest libraries and was helped by other scholars. Here is a taste of it. Chapter 3. [link to www.bibliotecapleyades.net (secure)] Either you like it or you don't. It is well worth the time reading, IMO, just to read the story of the Chinese Emperor who became known as "Emperor Yahoo", around the time of Moses, and how he dealt with the horrendous flooding that happened there. These just jump out at me. There are a few dozen others, handy to grab for a few pages' review when time is short. |
