NEW findings!!! this could be it!! New Red Dwarf Star found with Jupiter-Like Planet, So Massive it Shouldn’t Exist!! only 30 light years away!!
The discovery of a Jupiter-like planet orbiting a small red dwarf means our understanding of planetary formation might not be as clear as we thought. A second theory of planetary formation, called the disk instability theory, might explain this surprising discovery.

The red dwarf star is called GJ 351 and it’s about 31 light years away from us in Ursa Major.

GJ 3512 is 0.12 times the mass of our Sun, and the planet, GJ 3512b, is 0.46 times the mass of Jupiter, at minimum. That means that the star is only about 250 times more massive than the planet. Not only that, but it’s only about 0.3 AU from the star.

A giant, Jupiter-like planet has been discovered by astronomers in a unique place, orbiting a small red dwarf star.

According to researchers, who published their work on Thursday in the journal Science, finding such a large planet near a tiny star could force astronomers to rethink how planets form.

Red dwarf stars are the most common type of star in the universe and comprise more than 70 percent of those in the cosmos.

Scientists reportedly used astronomical observatories in Spain and California to analyze the red dwarf star GJ 3512, which is 31 light-years from Earth and about one-eighth the sun's mass.

report the discovery of a giant planet around the very-low-mass star GJ 3512, as determined by optical and near-infrared radial-velocity observations. The planet has a minimum mass of 0.46 Jupiter masses, very high for such a small host star, and an eccentric 204-day orbit. Dynamical models show that the high eccentricity is most likely due to planet-planet interactions.

We use simulations to demonstrate that the GJ 3512 planetary system challenges generally accepted formation theories, and that it puts constraints on the planet accretion and migration rates. Disk instabilities may be more efficient in forming planets than previously thought.

Many solar systems have planets that fall in-between the size of Earth and Neptune, while we have no such worlds. In other solar systems, Super-Earths — rocky planets — are often found much closer to the Sun, while our largest and farthest planets are all gas giants.

These differences imply that our own theories of planetary formation and evolution may need tweaking to account for how our solar system appears to be odd, for lack of a better way of putting it. As if to reinforce that argument, astronomers have found a planet that appears to be much too large for the star it’s orbiting. Their work, published in Science, raises questions about how a system like this could form in the first place.

Re: NEW findings!!! this could be it!! New Red Dwarf Star found with Jupiter-Like Planet, So Massive it Shouldn’t Exist!! only 30 light years away!!
Astronomers have unexpectedly discovered a gas giant Jupiter-esque exoplanet that's orbiting a dwarf star, located about 30 light-years from our sun.

The planet, known as GJ 3512 b, completes one orbit around the star every seven months. That makes this a giant planet with a long-distance orbit around a very small star -- something that shouldn't even exist given the current theories about planet formation, according to a new study.

The planet has a mass about half that of Jupiter. The red dwarf star has a mass about 12% of our sun. For comparison, the sun is 1,050 times heavier than Jupiter, the researcher said.
