Why did KFC go on a shit slide? The answer is pretty simple. Nobody can afford $40 for a 20 piece bucket of chicken.

Lots of diners where I live do broasted chicken. Yes, that is spelled right - b-r-o-a-s-t-e-d. A special pressurized cooker for it called a broaster.

Tastes just like KFC only not quite as greasy. I highly recommend trying it. I know they have them in Pennsylvania, not sure about elsewhere.

The 'secret' to KFC was never the herbs and spices anyway, but the chicken fat. Same as McDonalds for their magic fries, once - they were cooked in beef tallow. Animal fat is actually really tasty to use for cooking. Damned vegetarians are what put a stop to the latter.

Failing that, there is Chick Fil A. Their cheap chicken burger is damned good.

all I remember from years ago is that fried chicken went well with malt liquor & hydrocodone. But after three doctors locked me in a room at the VA hospital and asked if I wanted them to attend my funeral, I gave up all that.
