You do need power to pump gas.

AP is reporting PEOPLE affected
Utility is reporting CUSTOMERS (meters) affected
(often a house/apt has more than 1 person living there)

Same difference as reporting cars that were parked at a sporting event vs the number of people that were at the sporting event. There are going to be 2x to 3x the number of people at that sporting event than number of cars that carried them there since most cars would have carried 2 or more people there.

Currently numbers of customers affected has dropped a bit, now down to about 610,000 customers from 625,000 customers without power.

Whatever Kalifornica says think of something else as they are known for being liars. Maybe something to do with the dams and the generators being stressed. They have been using them to lower the water levels instead of the ruined spillway.

Just saw on ABC news a fire in San Bernardino, homes burning and another in NorCal.
