Because of the cunning, dishonest, unethical nature of people of the left, including historians and others, there was a small bit of me that did fall for the lame theory that, as another example, Republicans/conservatives of the 1800s during Lincoln's era would be Democrats/liberals decades later during the 20th century.

Then I read about the actual history of 3 major self-identified liberal Democrat US presidents - Woodrow Wilson of the 1920s, Franklin Roosevelt of the 1930s-40s and Harry Truman of the 1940s-50s - and how racist/bigoted they were in either policy or attitude, or both, and I was hit with another a-ha moment in realizing the true nature of liberal/leftwing biases.
