Quoting: christian "Why should someone who's clipping coupons in the stock market may, in fact, pay a lower tax rate than someone who in fact is, like I said, a schoolteacher and a fireman? It's ridiculous," Biden said. [link to www.foxnews.com (secure)] What is the gaff? What is the problem? It's a fair Democrap type question. Why should someone with massive investments , who probably inherited the money, pay a lower tax rate than someone that's working for a living? In days gone bye, low risk, low interest bonds had coupons that could be clipped and redeemed as the owner wanted money. In days gone bye, low risk, low interest bonds had coupons that could be clipped and redeemed(as interest) as the owner wanted money. I guess I never realized people cut coupons for the Stock market... They were printed on the bond paper and were cut off with scissors to be redeemed. This is like 100 to 150 years ago. I'm pretty sure they no longer make bonds like that. Here's the wiki [link to en.wikipedia.org (secure)] Cartoon pictures of people like JP Morgan usually show a small pair of scissors hanging from a chain on their vest.(for them to clip their coupons) Last Edited by Bennder on 10/16/2019 12:06 AM I don't have the time or the crayons to explain this to you. The bond holder "clipped" the coupon and sent it to the bond issuer to receive a check for their interest payment. So yeah, "coupon clipping" is a term that investors with knowledge and experience are quite familiar with.
