How to Fix Canada's Electoral System
It's simple. Elected MPs should just do their job instead of lining up behind their party and leader and vote/speak on behalf of the people in their riding.

This is what they are supposed to do. Represent the interests of ALL of the voters in their riding. But the reality is that if a hypothetical MP from a party that is against pipelines but was elected in a riding where the pipeline is something people want and need, that MP would be tossed from caucus for daring to vote for what's best for his riding. All three of the big parties have done this before.

An MP obviously can't please everyone in his riding, but he should be required to defend his reasons for voting one way or another to the people he represents.

An MP should actually have to live in the riding, not just own an apartment they rent out for profit. And the MP should be visible in the community, not just on flyers and signs at election time. I swear if it wasn't for the signs, I wouldn't even know what my MP looks like, because he's never around.

Proportional representation is the worst thing we could do. A few years back I lived in a rural area and the provincial ballot had a question about whether I support changing to a ranked vote where you would rank three candidates in order of preference. Since there is never anyone on the ballot that I want to vote for, and I end up voting for the least bad, and since there were only 3 names on the ballot, my vote would mean nothing if I was forced to vote for 3 candidates.
Light travels faster than sound. This is why some people appear bright until you hear them speak.
