What makes people untrustworthy?

Maybe there are different types of falseness out there? Not giving a fuck about what others think of you makes it seem like a person would just tell the truth, because they couldn't care less of what others think.

But falseness for material gain....I guess that wouldn't fit the profile

As a person who can be trusted and keep my word, I find people who request me to promise this, promise that, as manipulative, needy, energy stealing vampires.

Agreed. That's why it's hard to have friends, not knowing who is a user until you've been used and abused a few times with no consideration and reciprocation in your time of need. Definitely beware those who request promises.

And that's also why there are so many threads here about why "friends" are overrated.

Is this more of a female or male trait because as a female I don't think anyone has ever asked me to make a promise to them unless it's to keep a secret.

Can't trust anyone. It's all situational.

As long as your interests are aligned, you can count on each other, but the moment interests are not aligned or oppose each other, the only thing you can trust on for that person to pull the rug from under your feet if given the chance.

Example: Marriage and divorce. Interests are aligned, no prenuptial agreement because both are happy and trust each other. Then the relation goes to hell, interests are not aligned anymore, war ensues, and some months later you're broke.

This is why I am so grateful to have just my husband. Even family can be dipshits. He usually sees it before I do and warns me.

Feeling entitled to that which they are not and acting to acquire it regardless of the effect upon others.

There are many reasons for it, but I believe they all come from a lack of morality [no moral compass], damned souls by their actions in life.

Insecure people are not trust worthy. I currently deal with a narcissistic psychopath in the work place who was GM but got demoted to just a normal manager. Poor him. Guys a real piece of work.

Let me explain. For example. there was a girl in school who, if she found out anything about anybody, she'd yell out for example, "HEY EVERYBODY, GUESS WHAT I JUST FOUND OUT ABOUT KAREN?"

Maybe she didn't know Karen and therefore didn't give a fuck if her gossip was damaging to Karen's reputation. Or was embarrassing to Karen, or made people think less of her. All she cared about was being the center of attention. And if her actions resulted in hurting some random person, who cares? She's the star of the school at the moment, and that's the only thing that mattered.

Someone else may do the same thing. But because they DO know Karen and don't like her. Maybe Karen has a better BF, is prettier, has bigger boobs, comes from a richer family, or whatever. In such a case, its not because the person didn't give a fuck about hurting some random nobody. Its because they're getting a twisted enjoyment out of Karen's suffering. In their own mind, they feel they're actually serving Karen some sort of justice, for a perceived wrong.

Either way, though, the results are the same.
