Re: 36 Horses have died at Santa Anita since last December Breeders 2019 The PERFECT STORM
On Nov 1st the Breeder's Cup will be held at Santa Anita.

Leading up to this year's Breeder's Cups some things to consider.

36 horses have died since last December at Santa Anita where the Breeder's Cup 2019 is scheduled to take place on Nov 1 with an entire legion of activists wishing to end horse racing for good. Link: [link to ktla.com (secure)]

The CEO of the Breeder's cup instead of doing the responsible thing and changing the venue to a non horse killer track, had decided to keep the Breeder's Cup one of the biggest events in horse racing at the venue with the KNOWN DEATH WATCH where the count is ongoing.

The former reporter for Bloodhorse (serious horse publication) was Jeremy Balan @JeremyBalan on Twitter who lost his job after he reported about the initial first twenty horses he witnessed from the press box break down. Evidently true and honest journalism is now well respected and even frowned upon in the horse racing journals.

This week a past Breeder's Cup winner was euthanized :'( after a paddock accident-her name was "Soaring Softly"
[link to www.breederscup.com (secure)]

Keeneland racetrack in Kentucky has also had a rash of thoroughbred deaths this year including 3 deaths in only 5 days. [link to www.espn.com (secure)]

It should be noted George Soros owned horse "Justify" winner of the Triple Crown tested positive for Scopolomine and should have been disqualified and never ran in the Kentucky Derby or won the Triple Crown. [link to www.washingtonpost.com (secure)]

The track at Santa Anita is unsafe, yet that is not stopping Rick Porter owner of Eight Belles who famously broke down on live T.V. in front of everyone at the Kentucky Derby after placing second-also owns "Omaha Beach" who scratched just days before this year's Kentucky Derby, even though it was favored to win for a very small surgery on it's throat, allegations have been made the horse in the live video by Rood and Riddle in Kentucky is not even "Omaha Beach".

"Omaha Beach" sold it's breeding rights for an alleged $22 million just days before "scratching" (Not racing) in the Kentucky Derby sold to "SpendThrift Farm" AKA Public Storage. Link: [link to www.actionnetwork.com (secure)]

"Omaha Beach" a horse whose breeding rights belong to someone else is being raced anyway on a track that has already killed 36 horses since December.

If you owned a car worth 22 million dollars would you drive it on a race track with a giant pot hole that killed 36 other drivers...

Something just doesn't add up...
hence the Perfect Storm...

We can pass the Safe Act S2006 in the Senate and save every single one of these horses from slaughter, it would make all this cruelty illegal.

We could enact and demand similar legislation for all the cats and dogs slaughtered...

Boycott the races. All races that involve animals.
We had an Olympic horse at a posh stable in Chicago. Horses..high value "died" all the time of mysterious illnesses ie. lethal injections for insurance.. They were all thoroughbreds. Bad shit happens all over the place. I'd hold the insurer responsible too.
We did move our horse. He died of old age.

Horse racing has been slowly dying for at least 10 years.

I predict CA will be the next state to ban racing(within 2 years),NY will soon follow, and a nationwide ban will happen in less than 10 years.

Then it will once again become exclusively the "sport" of kings in one of the poorest states in the union - KY.

They really lucked out at the Kentucky Derby last time -- that ending was a near-disaster that could have easily resulted in a lot of dead horses

If something like that ever does actually happen, that may be the end of the "sport"

which may be for the best, considering all the horror stories of how horses are treated once they are no long good enough for racing

I remember the story of "Ferdinand", the 1986 Kentucky Derby winner, he was sent to Japan to be slaughtered for horse meat

That was his reward for all his racing, to spend his last weeks on some live container transport, suffering and being abused the whole time. Then tortured again at the slaughter house.

I have no problem with horse racing, but Santa Anita needs to be shut down until they can get to the bottom of this. We just had an ordinary horse run loose on a highway near here for 6 miles before slamming into a Mercedes, and all the news reports say the horse is fine and will recover fully. So race horses dropping dead like this on official racing tracks is way suspicious. It almost has to be intentional sabotage?

So of course the Democrat Party (communists) that rules the state and cares so much for the environment and animals just let's this slide. It's not new.

I used to follow horse racing and went to the track for years in my area, not CA, until I woke up to the abuse in the industry. Just like everything else. The horses were abused, starved and drugged. Can't fucking believe that 36 horses died. Poor things. Where are you Governor Newsome? Maybe you haven't sold your soul enough? Are you too weak and cornered to make a stand? Stupid filth, just like what's going with Pelosi et al.

In the meantime California is burning as Nero (Newsome) fiddles.

There is no shame in admitting you are wrong.

According to the Jockey Club's Equine Injury Database, 6,134 fatal racing injuries occurred between 2009 and 2018.

That's about 681 horses killed in racing, per year.

About 57 a month !

Though another figure I saw said about 25 horses a week die racing in the US

Short excerpt less than 50%, more at link:

"Two hours after the Classic, Breeders' Cup officials issued the following statement saying that Mongolian Groom had been euthanized.

“Mongolian Groom sustained an injury in the Breeders' Cup Classic today and was immediately attended to by an expert team of veterinarians, led by board certified veterinary surgeon Dr. Ryan Carpenter. During their evaluation at the equine hospital at Santa Anita, they observed a serious fracture to his left hind limb. Radiographs were taken and a complete evaluation was performed. Given the extent of the injury, Dr. Carpenter, in consultation with Dr. Wayne McIlwraith, veterinary surgeon and professor emeritus at Colorado State University, Dr. Rick Arthur, Equine Medical Director of the California Horse Racing Board, and attending veterinarian Dr. Vince Baker, recommended humane euthanasia of Mongolian Groom."

It was the toxic anti dust oil sprayed on the tracks in Cali a few years ago by unscrupulous soil management contractor..... and unlike other tracks in Cali that realized the problem right away and fixed it... they refuse to have it removed and replaced like other tracks have done.

That's probably another factor, I'm sure the list is pretty long.

There was an article in a local print newspaper about 5G but it's not online yet. It stated that there is 5G at Santa Anita and that the observed effects of 5G match the types of injuries seen, supposedly 5G interferes with calcium and mineral utilization, not sure of the details.

So we have

Breeding horses to be pretty as yearlings in the auction ring, and to be fast as 2 year olds, but not for solid leg bone conformation and long term soundness over a rigorous career.

Training and running horses at too young of an age before their bones are fully formed and I was just reading that there are drugs that young horses can be given that interfere with X-rays of their joints so they can be approved to run at younger ages, with deletrious long term effects.

Glyphosate used on oat crops before harvest to kill the entire field so it all dries out at once. Glyphosate interferes with gut health (gut health is everything to a horse) and interferes with mineral uptake in the plant producing crops with lower mineral content and in turn less available as nutrition (my theory).

Glyphosate residues could also be on the oat and wheat straw used as bedding.

There are other issues with the drugs used on racehorses in training and on race days as well.

As far as basic husbandry goes I'm sure it isn't good for young horses, or any horses, to be cooped up in a stall all day and only taken out for brief intensive works. More turnout would be super beneficial to any horse, that seems like common sense.

Here is Frank Stronach's letter, and at least he is trying to do something to help the horses, but nobody cares because Belinda Stronach runs things right now. She is in charge. HE has no power.

His ideas to actually HELP the horses are not listed...however if you read the comments Dawn Harrison has some really good ideas...

and an interesting point about the fumes coming off an artificial track irritating the horses and her.

However not sure that dirt or artificial are the only options surely there is a better way.

Read the rest of her points though, she made them back in April and had horse racing actually cared to listen to her, (which horsemen are all sexist...they won't.) they would not be losing their livelihoods now. They stuck there head in the sand. Instead of using her letter as a check point to ensure maximum safety of the horses and appease animal rights activists and stop them from ending horse racing altogether, they chose to just let them continue dying, dropping like flies. As if the whole world would not notice. AND THEY DID.

They should be making this lady the commissioner, she was a self appointed leader at the darkest time in horse racing, when everyone else was out for themselves...she brought her prior experience to the table to help shed light on how to save the horses and racing with it.

Her letter is in the comments. Link

With due respect, I am not a lawyer, politician or lobbyist.
Horse racing has been my life since I was 16yrs old, now I’m 55. I have worked every job from hot walker, to groom, to exercise rider, to jockey, to trainer, to owner, to breeder. At every level I love the horse more and more and continue to love them. Always putting their health and welfare first! I have placed numerous horses into loving homes.
I no longer am on the track, physically unable. But if I could be there, I would, in a heartbeat!
I have ridden over 250,000 miles on horseback, 90% at race tracks in the USA and 80% in California.
I have nothing to lose, or gain and this is important to me! I love these horses with every fiber of my being!!
The talks (give us some action) of changing medication and whip laws, this is progress, for sure.
With this said I must make the following comments.
My suggestions:
One national governing body, to ensure uniform regulations at every track Nationwide.
Mandatory 3 months (in a row) off every year for every horse.
No officials can own a race horse and govern competition; no conflict of interest.
All trainers across the Nation allotted a 20 stall maximum limit which would eliminate all Assistant Trainers, with only 20 stall limit there would be no need for this position, Assistant Trainers could have their own barn of 20, making the game more competitive and the fields larger.
All owners must be responsible for their horses’ aftercare (they owe it to the horse.) I believe there are funds for this now and they should be enhanced. Each owner at every stage of each horses life.
Kentucky Derby, Preakness and Belmont (TRIPLE CROWN) should be for 4year olds or even 5year olds (WHATS THE HURRY?) HORSES BECOME ADULTS AT AGE 5. I prefer a more mature horse to take on all the modern day expectations of a triple crown. “Derby” was established in 1780 in England. I think knowledge has greatly improved and it is time to adapt.
Safety standards for race track owners. (mandatory refurbishing of the infrastructure, when compromised from age, weather, normal wear and tear) My horses and I do not like to breath in manmade materials on a synthetic surface (more research)…dirt is better.
Whip restrictions. ENFORCEMENT FOR ETHICAL USE OF THE WHIP!
ENFORCING with more severe punishment for trainers, owners, jockeys and all licensed personal. Especially in drug offenses. Any horses involved in drug charges must go onto the stewards list, no more racing them under a different trainer or the assistant trainer. The fines should be double the purses involved with each individual race, detouring temptation. Anonymous TIP line should be in place for cheating reports. Monitoring details. ALONG WITH A NATIONAL ENFORCMENT BUERU for all states, no more running to another state to race, no more hand slaps for serious drug offenses. Life time suspensions are appropriate for jeopardizing a horse and riders life.
ZERO TOLORANCE!
Thank you for reading my comments, and when considering the Horse Racing Integrity Act, PLEASE, help save this beautiful industry that so many people love.
If I may quote a very good person who said...
As a horse lover and someone who has a passion for the most beautiful animal I have EVER come across, I have to say that HORSES are the most important animal that mankind has ever needed. If you go back in time. What was the transportation we used? Horses! Who pulled the wagons across the Plains? HORSES! Who carried the pony express boy to deliver the mail? HORSES! Who pulled the farmers plow across the field? HORSES! Who helped bring down the timber to help build our cities? Horses! Wells Fargo used….? Of course, HORSES!
YES! HORSES!
PLEASE JOIN ME IN PROTECTING THE HORSES INTEGRITY.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME AND ENERGY.
WITH MUCH LOVE, DAWN HARRISON"

Re: 36 Horses have died at Santa Anita since last December Breeders 2019 The PERFECT STORM
OP it's so obvious you have an AGENDA against a sport that has been going on since man has road horses bareback (just look at the number of self serving posts alone??).

How many cultures do you, OP, wish to destroy in your quest?? Which culture on this earth does not race horses??

You are over the top, super hyperbolic and blinded.

You seem to know everything how to Mongolian Groom die on the track?? Tell us how?? Who's fault was that particular death??

Liberals ruin EVERYTHING they attempt to 'fix'.
