They also shut off at 78 degrees and can't warm up jack. Forget overcoming hypothermia with one as it sips a meager 15 watts.

15? they are usually about 60 watts

I remember as a kid reading about all the fires caused by electric blankets.

Now rarely are they the cause.

That's the biggest difference.

FAR infrared pads are way superior to standard electric blankets.

Create a DC power bank(solar and/or batteries) that's good for 120V, or less if you wish. Cut out the control electronics and have a nice toasty DC blanket with zero ripple and EM field. It will stay on and hot until you switch it off.

What changed? I bet most of those fires were caused by smoking in bed.

The blanket tends to be warmer around the feet. Which is perfect for sleeping, hot feet help induce sleep.

I wonder if this is the same type of radiation as having a laptop on your legs? With a laptop, it seems like after 2-3 minutes of exposure, the legs feel like they are on fire and not from heat.

How can you possibly be cold under a blanket, I turn off my heat at night in order to get a decent sleep, do you not eat food or are 80 years old? I could see it if I had to sleep outside in a tent seeing its below 0 out there.

Different people have different metabolism. It takes me months to adapt to a season. I like to sleep when it's hot - lots of regular blankets really don't help. External heat does. In the summer I like 80 degrees, and in the winter it needs to be at least 76. Eating food just makes me fat. It doesn't help me be hot when it's cold.

If you're a mammal you just need a down comforter. They don't use any electricity and will keep you super warm. Mammals generate their own warmth.

There really is a tribe of elves called “go fuck yours” and that’s what they always say too... 1rof1 for example they differ from the shelf elf who always say to shelve it.

Re: electric blankets sure have come a long way since the 1970's
Heat rises, it makes more sense to buy the electric mattress pad "blanket, like the post said earlier about the "fitted sheet" type. It seems to me that with a blanket type most of the heat is immediately lost upwards, only the radiant heat reaches downward. Plus the mattress is heated too which is extremely welcoming on those chilly nights if you happen to be ugly and alone without a significant other to add to the natural body heat. I've had one that's lasted me for years (an electric mattress heater, not a significant other), I like it but for me it's semi important because my body temperature has always been around 93-95 degrees which is cold and weird.
