Always participate in a church or a school setting. So, those trunk or treaters, might want to check their candy. J IMO Thank you for ruining it for everyone. ;p My opinion, these churches and schools, think they know everyone there and nothing will happen to their child. Little do they know, they hold the most darkest secrets. |

My bf and I are noticing fewer and fewer every year. Quoting: Only Me Is it the PC culture doing it? We live in a pretty big neighborhood with lots of kids. What's going on? Is it just us?? It’s transient neighbors. Innthe seventies Halloween was so fun! Children dressed as witches and ghosts running across the lawns with pillowcases, as soon as it got dark. Adults sat on their porches or stoops and walked to visit and share hospitality and drinks. We knew or our parents knew every single person who dropped candy in our bag. We judged our neighbors by their candy! Chocolate bars were the best and the orange and black wrapped peanut butter or butterscotch taffy was the worst. In between were those tart smart something pastilles, suckers and lollipops, jaw breakers and bubblegum— blow pops and bazooka were the best! Healthy moms who gave us apples and popcorn balls just made us sigh. someine always thought to throw us toys or Halloween pencils — let’s just say a quick prayer may God bless their anti-glycemic little hearts and reward their good intentions. And increase their joy cuz they were too damned Puritan back in the day. So now we do t know our neighbors and the kids get driven spirt to sport instead of playing outside in the neighborhood. You really can’t trist the transient peoooe like you could trust neighbors you’d known for years or had dinner with, drinks with, in some cases sex with! |

It’s for children with food allergies Evidently it’s very popular...people display a teal colored pumpkin(s) so people will know that the House is giving away a small trinket/toy as an option over receiving candy. I’ve never heard of this until yesterday but a quick search revealed I’m just old and out of the loop with such poppycock. |

They have lots and I mean LOTS of events where kids can get 'free candy' and NOT GO DOOR TO DOOR! I think parents are not focused on the 'begging' thing anymore. They are weary of strangers and issues they can't control. Living has taught me one thing; nothing is certain...except salvation through Jesus Christ! |

It’s not just transient neighbors but also how they simply no longer design homes with an actual front porch anymore! Think about it! That greatly missed nostalgia sunk in last night as we were watching Charlie Brown/The Great Pumpkin last night...especially when the peanuts were sitrep’ing their candy scores one mentioned receiving an apple and another mentioned a popcorn ball ...and of course Charlie and his rocks was still chuckle worthy. I’m curious if certain towns/cities still have their local hospital X-raying the candy... mmmm, irradiated candy. |

The first year we lived here we spent 40 bucks on candy at least. Lots of kids in the area. Not one trick or treater. In the decade we have lived here a total of 10 door knocks. We stopped buying candy and leave the porch light off. |

Albuquerque was the same way. Our neighborhood in Gilbert, AZ had a huge block party. I live outside of Fort Worth now and some neighborhoods trick or treat and some don't. Around here, the older people were giving out candy and some of the preschoolers went out in costume with their parents. |

But we went trick or treating in the next town. This year was so beautiful, people were dressed up and waiting for children to come... my baby didn’t want to collect more candy cuz he was tired and his bag was heavy like 15 lbs. He’s a ninja and I was a pirate... lol... |

Personally Halloween needs to end and be replaced with a harvest ceremony or something of that sort that has a spiritual connotation. I live in a senior part so I don't have to concern myself with trick or treat,, but I would not participate anyway.. gave that up years ago. I don't object to treets and NICE costumes.. but this can be done locally as part of a harvest celebration. |
