Re: Ways to save on electric bill
I think I'm on to something!

Noticed on my bill the different prices are listed for "peak demand" and "off peak".
Peak price is $6.36 per KW.
Off peak is $1.50 per KW.

Peak is 6-9 AM and 4-7 PM.

I don't run my electric dryer, or even wash clothes during peak any more. I also put my heavy jeans out on my porch railing to dry a couple times instead of in my dryer (which is almost worn out too). The jeans use the most juice to dry.

I also do not shower at those times, or I at least turn off the electric breakers to the hot water heater during those periods.

Even though I am now running a big squirrel cage fan on my heat exchanger for the wood burner continuous or almost, my bill dropped from $130 to $80 in the last month.

Good deal! Any more ides?

Off peak is usually just a dedicated circuit for electric hot water heaters that only heat up in the off peak times.

Unless your whole supply is somehow monitored for peak and off peak consumption then you’re just wasting your time using other electrical appliances in the off peak times.

I think the "smart meter" does it all.

Aye, it does...It can also see exact use and identify appliance usages.

Re: Ways to save on electric bill
I don’t pay much for power no matter how much I use.

I use a lot too.

3 days a week my meter runs backwards because I pull it out and reinsert it upside down. That makes it turn backwards and it ereases the previous 3 day usage. I end up paying for only 1 day a week.

Don’t forget to turn it back to normal after 3 days though,,, otherwise the power company is gonna owe you a lot of money and want to know the reason why.

They make nice styrofoam decorative covering for ceilings and walls in 12' or 4' blocks for insulation and refinished walls, plaster board for walls.
