It'd be Afghanistan with tacos...a serious no win situation for the US.

And the likelihood that another country would invite a foreign military inside its borders? No way, Jose.

Re: The only hope for Mexico is armed citizens and an armed militia.
I lived in Rosarito, Mexico. I'm a singer/guitar player and I was playing in the bars for all the retired Americans who live there. There are thousands.
It took me a few years, but I started to notice that the cartels run everything. I smoke weed, but I knew better than to ever buy weed in Mexico. I would drive up to San Diego and buy it with my legal Cali ID. One place I was playing started to tell people that I could sell them weed, so I quit. I yelled at the owner "are you trying to get me killed?". About a year after that, my friend was murdered. She was hit by the side of the road and they called it an accident, but I was the person she was confiding in. She had been hanging out in that place and talking too loudly about the weed business going on in there.
After she was murdered, my computer was killed by a virus. That was the computer that she had been talking to me on. I took my laptop to a local tech and it scared him. He lost four computers trying to get info off of mine. He didn't believe the cartels could have a virus that sophisticated. He thought it was of Israeli source.
Put that together. The cartels in Mexico have access to a virus so bad it acts like stuxnet.
I got a strong feeling that it was time for me to move out of there. just in time, too because that area is on fire.
The American ex pats who live there and party in the local bars are in la la land. They live in mansions that are very cheap compared to California, and live like they are in Malibu. I and a missionary friend of mine tried to warn them about what is coming. We both found out that the cartels are just waiting for permission for a blood bath.
The cia created this mess.
I love Mexico. I love living there. I write songs in Spanish and I sing in Spanish and I'm a mexican wannabe. I am loved there by Mexicans for my love for their culture. I can't go back because the blood bath is coming.
The cartels are armed well thanks to Obama and fast and furious. Mexicans can't get guns, only the cartel has access to guns.

Interesting story my friend. I'm a Las Vegas native and used to vacation in Rosarito at least twice a year. I'd stay at the Hotel Rosarito and then drive to Ensenada in the morning for the fishing.

I quit going back in 2008 when the Mexican military started appearing all over the place. A Mexican General was having lunch at the hotel and there were at least 100 soldiers guarding him.

That was the last time I've seen that beautiful country.

That was the last year that my family went to Mexico also.
I was there with my parents and family four times in my life. My parents said that they were hesitant to go again after we went there in 2006. They said in the 1970s-early 1980s they would drive across the border without a care in the world- no fears of violence anywhere in Mexico. The odd thing is- there were lots of drugs in the 1970s and 1980s also, so I don't know why it is so different now than in that time period.

Mexican cartels are well armed, well trained, well organized, tech savvy and they got lots of cash. They get printouts of all the cops, their addresses and their salaries. The cops that are not corrupt get compromised. The federales police force are corrupt and widely feared. The politicians, also corrupt. Any leaders that rise up for the people are quickly killed. Young men trained in the military take better paying jobs or side work with the cartels. Few murders are solved or even investigated. If you are a cartel member you can freely kill anyone except if they belong to another cartel. The citizens have no support. Mexico has fallen. The only hope for Mexico is armed citizens and armed militias.

I live in San Diego and haven't been to Mex in 20 years! In part because of this story. I went to school with 1 of these guys and they're still worried about this.

Just read this harrowing story:

It was 4 a.m. Friday morning, August 31. Duke, Walt and Roger, three buddies from North San Diego County, were headed down to Mexico keen on surfing the predicted south swell. Their destination: San Carlos, Baja California for a Labor Day holiday weekend filled with surfing, kite surfing and relaxation. This was trip they had done many times before. Duke and Roger especially, having grownup in the Solana Beach/Del Mar area

They crossed the border at 4:30 a.m. and preceded toward the toll road, driving along the well-worn road that hugs the border and then climbs the steep hill toward the Tijuana beaches, the bullring and coastal destinations further south. It is the road that everyone who has ever traveled into Northern Baja has been on. And the guys were fired up and optimistic as they followed the road south and descended less than half a mile from the USA/Mexico border. Then the blue lights hit their rear view mirror. Cops.

The thing is.....it is ingrained in the Mexican mans dna to always try to become el jefe. No matter the situation. It comes for the ancestry of always fighting one thing or another, politicians, wars, strife etc.

I grew up on the border and traveling back and forth across the border. The men will form a group to control a village, then they will have disagreements with another village leader. And shit breaks between them and grows due to cousins, wives and so on.

Or you have a group/village in a much more prosperous area, better land, more water, more money, the poorer groups don’t think it’s right they get the rocky dry area....shit breaks out.

The men are corrupt in every single aspect of life there. Sure politicians, but so are utilities, even the clerk taking your water payment.
‘It is a mess.

Yes, Mexico is a failed state. Gingrich was saying it’s a civil war. I don’t see it as a civil war. The cartels have been around for a long time. There use to be a balance between the people, the police, the government and the cartels. That was when the cartels were only in the drug trade, but now the cartels are into everything, they want a cut from all the businesses in their territory, even the taxi drivers. They have crossed the line into the people’s individual freedom. There is no personal security anymore. The people’s individual freedoms has been over run by the cartels. The people are powerless. It’s those who have guns against those who don’t. The citizens are mostly unarmed and vastly out gunned, they have no one to turn to, no support. It’s oppression.
