Quoting: Jesus is also the Father God Texans voted against having government. We will see how that works out for y'all. Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe they collect enough in sales tax. They've never had an income tax bud, this was simply putting it into their constitution so the useless eaters who are flocking there cant change it in the future once they inevitably become a blue state. One thing the leeches love doing is moving to a new state after they've bled theirs dry to do it all again. This just ensures that never happens You just stay in whatever state youre in and keep paying those income tax so your state government too can continue to exist or at least stay there and keep believing that |

Our home is old and paid off and in need of repair but, we have to scrape and starve just to pay the $3500.00 the county wants in property tax. We're also down to one old vehicle. Love Texas, but life here is too hard for middle class. get it re-assessed/file protest when the nest estimate comes in and make sure THEY have the correct info on your property and go through all the years to see how much/what percentage THEY jacked up the tax. FFS when i filed protest 2016 and sat down w/the guy, I SEE THEY were calling a freekin doorway that is basicall a tiny "portico" A FRONT PORCH ?? you couldn't even fit a small chair there, and then telling me that my property was comparable w/another guy's--how so when the other man had more sq footage, more acreage, 5 outbuildings on and on== try and see what can get sorted out. the main problem remains these damn palatial schools-i have no kids in attendance anymore and that in itself should result in a nice reduction. |

As you can see, our governor is fantastic. Texan through and through. Moonstar |

LOL homestead basically does shyte and even w/the over 65 thing, you're still FKD by the amount going over to the "independent school district" which IS the entire problem for most, you pay that till you either rent or die.all the bs over 65 deal is they claim your assessment will NOT go up- LOL--but TX property taxes cannot be worse than say westchester etc. |

The Texas Homestead exemption lowers your taxable amount by $25,000. If your home is valued at $175,000 you would pay taxes on $150,000 after the exemption. If your tax rate is 2% then you would save $500 per year. |

It's great for renters, but it's a heavy burden on property owners. When a $200K house is taxed at about $6K a year, and the sales tax is 8.5% in many counties, you realize where Texas gets the money necessary to run the state. Property taxes due January 1st, right after Christmas, unless you have a mortgage and have the foresight to have them charge you taxes along with your house payment. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Texas. I always will. Texas is like a hot guy in tight Wranglers. Exciting nights, but in the morning, your purse is gonna be a bit lighter in the wallet. Not great for renters. The property owners pay their property taxes straight out of the annual ridiculous rent increases which are way out of line with property tax increases or cost of living increases. There is talk in Texas about lowering those property taxes. Moonstar |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 54300285 United States 11/06/2019 09:44 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | So fucking dumb. What we should do is abolish property taxes and implement a state income tax in its place. Think about it. At least if you lose your job you don’t have to pay. That isn’t the case with property taxes, there are people whose house is mortgage free that lose it and end up homeless because they became disabled or are elderly on a fixed income or lost their job and they can’t afford their property taxes. |

Another was closed but I have no clue why. They had 12 voting machines at our voting place but they sent 8 machines away. We were down to four. Then, these other voters came to our place to vote. The line was down the hall and back out the door. Also, if you wanted to not have the tax you had to vote “for”. The whole thing was crazy messed up and I live in East Texas. |

Sadly, Texas has been slowly turning blue, county by county, over the last 6 years or so. The mere fact that Beto was even a possibility was frighting enough, and those votes weren't just coming from Austin. Houston was a sea of blue compared to previous years, and I think we all know why that is. Watch yourselves, Texas. Get the goddamn wall built already. |
