I do not think this was a staged tv show. Where was the production crew? Where was the huge air matt below to catch the guy. They win through "normalcy bias". I'm sorry, but i think you might be missing the big picture on this one. It matters because we are constantly bombarded with the subject so we will become numb to it. Finding out it was for a show doesn't make it any better - the suggestion was made, and that's enough to make it become "normal".
