This just about the coolest thing I have ever seen. It's amazing what animals can learn. This dog uses a communication board to make human speech sounds communicating what he wants. [link to news.avclub.com (secure)]

They also project thoughts by bringing a ball to your lap or a leash.

Nudging their dog bowl towards you in the kitchen is also a hint.

Then there's always the laying on their back at your feet hint.
Yeah I did it, and it can't be undone.

As nice as it would be be to hear a beloved canine companion provide career advice or discuss the movie you just watched together, the devastation of a cherished pet looking up into its owners’ eyes then purposefully stamping out “I have never actually loved you” with its cute little paws might be too much misery for the human soul to bear.

My Jack Russell knows the difference between - go to the park, go get the mail, go for a ride, go get your harness, want a bite, what was that, where is it, what do you want, get the kitty, gotta go pee, hurry up, wait, stop, you want to go home, want to go see Tilly, want to go see Buddy, sit, speak, and no. I say those words and she knows how fast, how far to go, and where to wait.

Talk to your dog, they listen and learn. But Jack Russells are special, only took a few tries over two days to get her to fetch her harness. She can also tell time, how I don't know, I didn't teach her. She knows the highway routes to her favorite places, she knows when you turn to go to the vet. She potty trained in a day or two, but hates to poop in her own yard, unless she just has to. She never strays out of her yard on her own, always stops at the boundary. She knows the car isn't moving until I turn the key and grab the shifter, then it's on, roll down the window, please.

Come to think of it, our Dobies all learned english too. Had a fun vocabulary also. Get the Bibbees was fun. (our dickhead neighbors)

Talk to your dog. You want them to think you're boring?

Had a Dobie/German Shepherd mix, female. Many smart things about her, she lived a long time, every day with us. She loved eating MJ, in any form, even right out of the ground, or an ashtray, or your hand. She would beg for it.

One time I had pretty much snapped. I went upstairs, got a shotgun out, and sat on the edge of the bed. Here she comes. She sat in front of me making sounds I'd never heard from her before, but she was definitely trying to tell me something. She was trying to form the words. I put the gun away and went downstairs, and she was herself again.

Hug your dog every day, they live such short lives, and they love you.

This is very cool indeed, I can imagine all the things Dogs would say if they really could speak. Perhaps this is just a new pathway.

This post made my day. I had a Jack for 17 years - she was the best. Miss her every day.
